I’m looking to get a small form factor monitor to keep an eye on gig performer during live plays. I’d like to be able to close my MacBook for some safety. Ideally, the monitor is touchscreen, but mostly I’d really like it to function on a single USB-C cable, so power display (and touch) all over one cable. Any recommendations in the 6-16 inch range? Vesa mount would also be nice to have.
I am using this one in combination with my Mac mini.
Works nicely, USB-C powered, so only one cable. Very light as well. No VESA mount, though. It does have a small stand of its own, which fits nicely on the side of my flight case, which sits next to me, out-of sight for the audience.
The touch screen capabilities are a bit more limited than I hoped for, but for basic things like pressing the buttons it works. I assume this is actually because of the limited macOS support.
This particular model has an anti-peek/privacy screen. That is something I would avoid but YMMV.
I’m also planning on using controllers to do anything show-related, however I like the idea of having some options for controlling the laptop in general.
I’ve been using this in the 14" touch form for a couple of weeks now:
Works as expected. No VESA mount though, but comes with a protective cover which also functions as a table stand.
Worth noting that at least with this specific display, the “single USB-C cable operation” only works if the cable itself is compliant with Thunderbolt 3. Thus, any USB-C cable will not do. The one that comes in the package is a bit on the short side.
