I wonder if a “Performance Mode” would be cool. I realize it may seem like Setlist is for this, but in a situation where you just aren’t sure what’s going to happen next, or when you and your bandmates are writing songs, or jamming, a bit more freedom makes sense
For me, this is “Panels Mode”.
That’s what I’m referring to as “Rackspace” which is where the recall problem is.
Ok, I’m not sure what the numbers are for, but I put an asterisk on the part I wanted to open on load and it worked fine! Thank you. This is actually great! Not sure why it didn;t sink in my brain earlier! Only real sticking point now is Getting “Ignore Variations” to work per song instead of per Rackspace
The numbers were a way to map the parts to a particular footswitch number.
Ok, this is working GREAT!!! Can you think of any way to force Ignore variations to only work on a per song basis? I do have a workaround in jam sessions that I can load a panel with ignore variations and run in panel mode instead of setlist mode, but that again adds to the load time (mostly helix native taking forever to load I think) and really, I think we do need a way to separate perfromance mode from edit mode in Rackspaces or just make a third category entirely
@dhj @npudar I’m FINALLY looking at a realistic Windows beta to match our mac beta after seven ^&%$&$&$^% years and we are about to release, after which, hopefully shortly after which, I’ll be adding Gig Performer files for people who want to take this thing to their shows instead of just in the studio (not that I haven’t found by now that Gig Performer is actually very handy for studio use as well!)
I think between Rank13’s song selector and a few other users’ input, I have Gig Performer working pretty much how I want with just the same few leftover issues, and still being six of one, half a dozen of the other on whether I want to use Rackpace Vs Setlists
My issues:
Rackspace: Always recalls the last setting you had on that variation. I can’t figure out a way to have it recall the values saved per variation in that Rackspace
Setlist: I CAN recall the actual saved setting with the variation or variation captures, BUT, “Ignore Variation” works per rackspace and can’t be reset per song. If I, for example, switch my pitch shifter on to save my singer’s voice, it will be then on for every song that uses that Rackspace. I would like this to be per song, is this perhaps scriptable?
In an ideal world, I’d be using Setlists as there are so many advantages and safety reasons to make that the best mode, but I really need Ignore Variations to work on a per song mode.
For parameter values in variations (or Song/Song Parts), it would be nice to have the choice to “Recall” - any parameter edits are recalled when returning to a variation/part or “Discard” - Any parameter edits are returned to their saved values on variation/part re-select
I’m not following why you would use Ignore Variations for this scenario. Why not switch it on while in Setlist mode, and use Capture Variation for the relevant song parts. That way, it is off again in other songs that use the same rackspace.
For two reasons, 1 is that say for a harmonizer key, it means you have to go and change it for every song part, but more importantly:
In the middle of a show, the singer wants it down half a step, you would have to also switch that parameter every time you changed song parts, which could be multiple times per song, and probably not humanly possible
It may be simpler then to move these types of plugins to the global rackspace?
It would still be somewhat the same problem. If the pitch was shifted down, it would still be there on the next song. It would make changing harmonizer keys easier though. But then you’d be in the wrong key for the next song. No good way out of this that I see in the current paradigm.
Song part actions include the ability to set a widget value. You could use actions on the first song part to reset a global widget back to a default value.
I’d want it to reset it to a specific saved value per song not a global one. Is that possible?
Each song part action is unique, so you can set the widget to whatever value you need for that particular song.
