Thanks for sharing!
I created this rackspace for use in several different songs. It has 2 OBX synths, a NI Battery drum machine and a Piano (I use a Motif ES rack for the piano). Each instrument has keyboard high and low range controls so you can put them anywhere on the keyboard you want. The screenshot only shows one of the OBXs but the other instruments are below that. To use the effects you need to load the right ones in the OBX. There are a few songs that I programed in the variations. One is Never Been Any Reason. One variation uses both OBXs so I can play the harmony part (one hand on each OBX). I also have the lead along with the filter cutoff sweep (mod wheel) on the recording. Also in the variations I have Dancin’ in the Dark, Uprising, Hot to Go. I started working on Funeral for a Friend and that variation is here but it’s not done.
This is fantastic. Thank you for sharing this!!
Hello love the rackspace. I will be downloading it the song Never been any reason I have been trying to create that sound and cannot get close enough to a good match. Any possibilities of sharing the settings for the OBX. Thanks, Cheers
Most of the settings are mapped by the widgets. When you click on the variation the knobs and buttons that you see on the rackspace will move to the settings of the selected song (variation). Are you asking what settings are not shown on the rackspace? I can post a screenshot of the OBX preset I use as a starting point. By the way, I chose the OBX over the other synths because I love the fat analog sound. I used to use a virtual MiniMoog but the Arturia version does not sound warm enough for me. It has an edge in my opinion. Download and try it. Let me know if you need more info and thanks for writing.
Here is a screenshot of my OBX after I click on the Never Been Lead. I have everything inside the advanced tab modulation on zero except the pitch bend. I use the widgets for the filter sweep and modulations on these songs. That allows me to change them from song to song by tweaking knobs and buttons. I hope that helps.
Norkro, Sorry for the bad typing… I am trying to recreate the lead synth sound for “Never Been Any Reason” Just have not been able to nil it down. Hope yours will help me get there. Thanks
I’m happy with the sound I have for Never Been Any Reason. I played that song on a MiniMoog when the song was new in the late 1970’s and I think what I have with the OBX is really close to the original and has a warm tone. I’ve also played it on a Motif ES (but I don’t like the attack) and on a virtual MiniMoog (that sounds edgy to me rather than warm). The melody after the first verse ends holding an A note and the filter cutoff goes down holds for a moment then goes back up. I programed that into the mod wheel so hold that A note and smoothly push the mod wheel all the way forward to bring the filter cutoff down to the barely audible range, hold it there and smoothly bring it back to the resting position. The same patch is programmed for the glide in the main solo. I hear some overdubs in that solo where there are two melodies going on. I added a delay to sort of cover that so while I play what I consider the main part the delay repeats what I just played to sort of give the effect of two synths playing. I’m thinking about putting together a YouTube instructional video on how I play it. Let me know what you think and thank you for your comments.
