Racks or Variations for 16 Kontakt VSTs - Plus tutorials on using external gear / sys ex

Hey there,

I am relatively new to Gig Perfomer but am already discovering the potential of it - I have been watching the Ask Audio Tutorial series on it, which is great for getting up and going.

I just have a few questions for the experts here = I want to be able to switch between 16 different VSTs - In this instance they are all in Kontakt. So in theory I could use variations or Rack spaces -

as I am not asking it to change much . Can anyone comment on which will be a better solution, as well as which will be easier to assign an external controller to - so I can switch VST at a press of a button .

The Ask audio videos are good, but only cover the basics. I want to incorporate some external synths, that use sys ex , as well as PC to select patches- is there a tutorial on using external gear you could point me to , and can this also in theory be “switched” between 2 external synths via a Midi command, just ilike I want to do with my VSTs ?

Thanks in advance,

PJ

That Ask Audio stuff is old, I think built with Gig Performer 3.

You can find many video on the Gig Performer YouTube channel.

Also many resources and tutorials here: Gig Performer Resources

For controlling external hardware:

Thank you

Hmm, let’s be careful here. Kontakt itself is a VST but the instruments that you insert in a Kontakt plugin are not themselves VSTs.

So are you trying to use one Kontakt plugin with multiple “instruments” inside it or are you trying to use multiple Kontakt plugins each with a single instrument?

Edit: both approaches are feasible, it really depends on what you want to do - also depends on how well you know how to program Kontakt.

Sorry yes , just VSTi as I call them ;

I.e only instruments -

In Cubase I tend to use a mixture of One instrument per instance , (of Kontakt) with a few multis where it makes sense.

I just wondered if either approach was a much better approach to work in GP 5 or if they are both just as viable.

in terms of effects etc I will most probably route them in groups to virtual channels on my Apollo X with sends or inserts .
