I have been using Gig Performer for around a month now and I have to say I ‘REALLY’ like it.
Anyway - could anyone please advise with a setup problem (Windows 10).
I am trying to connect my hardware Roland Integra-7 module to Gig Performer using Roland’s own configuration VST3 program - but I am running into problems. Basically this VST simply allows you to set up the sounds etc. in a very flexible and controllable way (its a complicated box!). It works in Cubase etc - but not in Gig Performer. I could just use PC/MSB/LSB numbers - but with around 6000 sounds available its a tad hard (and actually not realistic) to keep track of them all.
The problem is that when you try to connect it up according the the Roland instructions (relevant page attached). What it says to do (using the VST interface) is to click on the ‘Utility’ button and then ‘Device’. It then opens up a window which says: ‘Input Device’ and ‘Output Device’. The Input device is set to blank; but the Output Device is set to ‘Integera-7 CTRL’ (a midi port) . If you then change the ‘Input Device’ (as you should) to also say ‘Integra-7 CTRL’ and click OK then you get an error message which says ‘MIDI INPUT PORT CONNECTION FAILED’.
What I think may be happening is that the Integra-7 hardware has two sets of midi Input/Output ports: ‘Integra-7’ and ‘Integra-7 CTRL’. The former (Integra-7) is used to send normal midi data such as note on/off etc - but the latter (Integra-7 CTRL) I suspect is used as a direct link from the VST to control the hardware in depth.
My suspicion is that the ‘Integra7- CTRL’ midi port is not intended to be used directly by VST hosts. But that Gig Performer has actually already grabbed hold of it - so that when the Roland control VST tries to allocate it directly, it discovers that the port is not free - and thus the allocation fails. Indeed if you look at the setup instructions for Cubase (attached) and Sonar - it says to untick the ‘Integera-7 CTRL’ midi port from those programs - which seems to back this theory up.
So I guess the question is - is there any way that I can unallocate the 'Integra-7 CTRL midi device from Gig Performer or otherwise make it forget it.
But - ANY suggestions would be gratefully received please - as I would really like to get this great box working.
PS Having said that I have attached the setup instructions - I cannot seem to get the ‘Upload Image’ button to work on either Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge (i.e. nothing happens when you click it).
