I spent the last few days getting acquainted with the Nord Electro 2. I just got one used, and I really like the organs on it!
Before I can use it in my gigs, I had to make sure I could set all of its controls with midi. I think that I will use it as my main controller on stage, its size is optimal for cramped spaces.
So after a lot of frustration and digging into the manual, I’m proud to share my rackspace with you.
I’m routing the audio out from the keyboard into my midi interface’s inputs 1 and 2. I then use Gain and Balance controls to send either mono or stereo to my global rackspace. You may need to edit this:
I am also using the Electro with “Local” MIDI turned off, so that I can send all the MIDI control settings back to the keyboard through MIDI out without creating a MIDI loop. To do this on the keyboard you press SHIFT+PROGRAM 3 (Local)
You may have to go into edit mode and edit the MIDI device for each of the controls. If you click on a widget, go to the MIDI tab, click learn, and move/toggle the corresponding control on the Electro, you can then click on the next widget, move/toggle, and it will learn each.
I also have 27 presets programmed into the rackspace. Most of the credit for these goes to the excellent Sounds of the 70s B3 Plugin, as I copied the drawbars, and then used my ears and taste to adjust the final sound.
So, yesterday I learned that the quickest way to replace one midi device with another is to use the rig manager. That way you can change all the widgets from one midi device to the other without having to go to edit mode and switch each widget manually
That is not new - you can map a widget to the velocity value of a note and then link that widget with another widget that can control any parameter you like. This has been possible since widget linking was implemented at some point in GP 4
I know, I mean that if you would only use GP to send out a PC message to select the right patch in the Nord Electro and use Local controls to play, this functionality is missed.
