Moving gig files and associated SAFP content to a new laptop

Hello all. I’m trying to copy my Gig Files and associated SAFP content to a new Windows laptop as a backup when playing live but am having the same problem of the SAFP markers not being there on the new machine. I cannot set an identical path because the user name on the second machine is different. Is there a way to transfer the markers across in this situation? Thanks!

I think this will be an ongoing headache unless you either create identical file paths or, perhaps, use symbolic links.

Could you just do what the OP did and create a folder with the identical name as your original laptop and use that (create an identical file path)? (I think I ran in to this same issue as you and the OP and (I think) did this.

The problem I have with this is that the folder is under the documents folder and the user names of the laptops are different, so for example C > Users > OldLaptop > Documents > Audio Files becomes C > Users > NewLaptop > Documents > Audio Files. From the previous comments would I be correct in thinking that this is where the problem is arising?

In the Options menu, under Locations, you can add paths to indicate where GP should look for audio files. So on your new machine, add the path where you have those files and you should be good to go.

Warning - do not add a top level path (like C:) and then enable Recurse. If you do that, your computer will search the entire file system looking for audio files.

I did think that this was what I’d done when I tried to move the files across earlier. It could of course have been operator error - let me have another go later on and see if I get different results. Many thanks for your help!

Yes, moved the same gig file and audio as before to a third computer using the same method as described above and this time the markers are all there safe and sound. Obviously I did something wrong the first time. Thanks again!
