macOS Sonoma upgrade

saved project restarted mac, seems to be freezing on mouse / keyboard clicks, not sure as have had some freezing with this project gonna try a new project.

Seem I found the root cause
It was a plugin from Plugin Alliance.
Noveltech Vocal Enhancer
Even when bypassed it caused audio glitches.
I removed it and now it is running fine.

I contacted their support.

I have the same experience with Unfiltered Audio Triad (also PA): small dropouts every now and then. Luckily my usage is live (duh) in a rather distorted setup, so I don’t mind too much, but it leaves a lot to be desired.

Didn’t try it out bypassed (as far as I can recall). (And I use Windows 11)

I had some strange issues with midi and audio, watched midi studio and noticed a few things going on and off, I’ve now powered the hub and all seems stable, strange that i did not get this in 13 or maybe it was not as obvious, the audio goes through the hub to the focusrite.

We didn’t do a live gig for the next 4 weeks, would you recommend I switch to Macos Sonoma now or not? I still hesitate.

I’m currently having a strange problem with GigPerformer. I load my gig file and have short jumps in CPU load for about 5 minutes from, for example, 17% to 50%, then back to 17%, then back to 44%, back to 17% and so on. During this time I have massive audio dropouts and glitches. After about 5 minutes the spook is over. It’s probably some kind of plugin, but I’ve updated everything I can, swapped out all the AUs, but haven’t found the error yet. Maybe an update to Somata will help.

What OS are you using now?
Does the issue occur with the inbuilt audio also?

Ventura 13.4.

What do you mean with ā€œinbuilt audioā€? I have Audio input device and output device in GigPerformer Loopback Audio.

What do you advise me, what should I try?

What audio interface are you using?

Volt 4 from Universal Audio

By the way:
Sample rate 44100
Audio buffer size 128 samples

Ok and when you use as audio output the Mac inbuilt audio device, same issue occurs?

It’s rather worse, I changed it immediately and the CPU load still jumps back and forth between 30% and 40%, reasonable playing is not possible.

I’m still using 10.14 for live performance. Can’t see any benefit to upgrading.

Also, lots of plugin companies are telling people not to upgrade yet.
YMMV

Can you test with predictive load set to 1
And then check different rackspaces?

WIth the loopback Audio/Loopback Audio configuration?

This test is to check if an offending plugin is causing the issue.
So your normal audio configuration is ok.

Much better in multiple rack spaces, but not completely gone.

When you bypass plugins in rackspaces where cpu is high?

Hammond B-3X, Roli Equator2 and Korg Triton Extreme require the most CPU load. When I set them to bypass in several rackspaces, there was suddenly no sound. This was due to SmartEQ3 in my Global Rackspace, for which I had installed an update yesterday. I removed it completely and the error disappeared for now. I hope that was the mistake, thanks for your support!

Do you use predictive load set to 1 for live gigs?

No, I do not.

All right, thanks again!

@dhj: You’re right, I won’t upgrade to Sonoma initially. The only thing that always bothers me is the little red 1 in the system bar…
