Halion not receiving MIDI [solved]

HI, I am having a problem with Halion 7. It does not receive MIDI at all. MIDI set in Halion to receive A1 #1 signals like all other plugins loaded. I’ve got four other VSTi’s loaded all of which play fine. GP and the Wiring section show that MIDI is being transmitted to Halion but Halion does not show it receiving MIDI within it’s GUI as it usually does via the MIDI icon. Halion plays fine in standalone and in other DAWs.

I’m sure it’s probably simple but I am stumped?

What MIDI channel is your controller using?

Channel 1

Please open the global MIDI monitor, play some notes and see on what channel those notes are being sent?

Yeah, as suspected, your controller is sending messages on channel 9 and Halion probably only responds on channel 1

Yep, noticed immediately. inadvertantly changed the Launchkey settings (still learning it). That did it. Strange that the other VSTi’s still played fine?

Thanks so much dhj!

Nothing strange at all - some plugins don’t care on what channel MIDI messages arrive – some only work on channel 1 - multi-timbral plugins obviously require specific channels for each sound (and this channel routing should be done via MIDI In blocks or the rechannelizer, NOT by the keyboard controller

Although I have Halion, I will admit to not really using it (yet)

But, I suspect it is similar to Kontakt in that it will receive midi data on whatever channel you select in Halion (including Omni?). But, in this case Channel 1 was selected, while the controller was sending out midi data on Channel 9.
