Getting midi clock from audio signal with drums

Hey there,

does anybody knows a solution, how to get a midi clock signal from an external audio signal with drums? Background is to have a possibility to sync timebased Effects in Sounds to a live playing combo without playing with click, so that the clock-rate changes when the live tempo fluctuates.

What drums?
A drum computer or real acoustic drums?

With ableton and Link and a m4l patch called beat seeker it could be possible

In our case it is a real electronic drum kit with a real human player

Ok, for my understanding.

Your drummer starts playing with tempo = 120 bpm.
Your effects are programmed to 120 bpm

Now the drummer raises up or down the tempo (because he has no click track) and
GP should follow the drummer speed?

What Drum Kit are you using?

Exactly. The used drum kit is one of the Roland TK series I think. I don’t know exactly at the moment.

Maybe such a device can help

Why can’t you use a click track?

May be, but as far as I know, this device is no more produced and I think they are rare, so not easy to get as used device.

You should think about tapping the tempo in via a foot controller

For some songs we have tracks, but not for all. We have a very big song pool and sometimes changing players in the band, so it is not allways possible to make a track in every case, because the time is mostly to short, when getting to know, which songs we play on sunday morning at the service.

this is not comfortable when the tempo changes during a song.

Gig Performer provides a Metronome
So you could give the drummer the correct speed and then he counts in the band.

Correct, but without telling GP the bpm you are lost.

Right, so my intention was to have a possibility to get the actual bpm from may be my in ear signal.

At the beginning you talked about midi clock, now signal in you in ear?

Yes, I thought about taking for example the in-ear signal and generate a midi clock signal to send the correct actually played bpm to GP.

OK, without such a hardware this will not work.
For tempo changes and sync GP:
You need click tracks the drummer follows

I thougt, that somebody knows a software or plug-in, that does the job of something like redsound voyager 1 Beat etractor. The computers today I think have now enough power for that.

Hardware

For the time synced effects.
Are you talking about delay effects?

The drummer should start with the correct tempo.
Then before you play sounds that use this delay effect, tap in the tempo by for example pressing a dedicated midi foot controller.

I thank that could work.
