You run Windows Media Player and GP at the same time?
Thatās something I would do⦠![]()
I had many problems with a Beringer UMC and focus scarletā¦now I have a motu and since I didnāt have distortion or crashes anymore. I donāt say the interface is responsible for all, but it certainly helps to have a decent or better interface.
My everyday working interface is a Focusrite Clarette+ 8Pre. Three months ago I built a new audio workstation with an Intel Core⢠Ultra 9 285K (800 MHz) with 64mb of ram installed, plus 2ea 4tb SSDs, using Windows 11 Pro. Recently I have been having a problem with the audio āfuzzingā out, sometimes from startup to happening a few minutes after booting/rebooting. Resetting Windows audio did not correct the issue, only the short term relief of rebooting, or intermittently turning off/on the audio interface. I also got undetermined high CPU usage in GP. The only thing that would solve that was rebooting and starting GP right away. Not sure if this was associated with the audio issue, but both started happening about the same time. Today I downloaded the latest Focusrite Control software package and installed it. Note - drivers are no longer provided separately by Focusrite, they are apparently included in the Focusrite Control software package, including Thunderbolt drivers. When I installed the package, it also updated the Clarette+ 8Pre firmware. Since then I have not had any fuzzing out or high CPU usage problems. The moral is it is worth trying downloading and installing/reinstalling the latest Focusrite Control software they have on their website. Good luck!
Sounds pretty similar to meā¦.![]()
Things I can come up with:
I used one for several years without issues (until the internal voltage regulator got fried, but thatās not the issue here). Your system is on AC power, Iāll take it? Using at least a high performance energy scheme? This seems trivial, but itās actually very important (as I empirically found out)
Thatās good, but this next thing makes that probably pointless:
I wouldnāt do that. Windows audio sets its own sample rate and isnāt aware of your ASIO settings and might use conflicting settings.
Btw: Using mmsys.cpl you can completely disable all inputs and outputs of the device (for use by all non-ASIO applications).
It is multi-client for sure.
Thatās an unusual size, like @themaartian said, which I do not recall the Scarlett driver exposes. But 256 should do just fine
I remember that at one point I installed an older version of the driver, because it seemed to work better, but I couldnāt prove to myself if it really mattered. You could try, however.
My two cents for knowā¦
I have several 3rd gen Scarlett interfaces including the 4i4,2i2, and Solo. I experience the exact same thing especially with the 4i4. Normally opening up the Focusrite setting panel from the system tray icon and clicking between a different sample rate clears it up. I usually run at 44100 so just clicking to 48000 (youāll hear a faint click) and then switching back (another faint click) and the distortion is gone. It seems to occur when the system has been idle for some time so I never had it happen during a gig, but I no longer use the Scarlettās live.
Oh God ! ![]()
I am very happy to have had only one UCX RME for over ten years now. No problems since. ![]()

Same never a single problem and I use it on iOS , windows and mac
Yep - Iāve toured around the US, Europe and Japan with a single UFX since 2012 and still going strong.
My previous Scarlett 6i6 2nd gen is also still around. No trouble for the previous 11 years. I gave it to the live streaming team from our church. They use each weekly.
Only for rehearsalā¦. not on stage.
Thank you so much. I didnt notice, that there was a brandnew version of Focusrite Control. I installed it today and it seems to work. So simpleā¦.. ! I played today for 4,5h and had no problems.
I am so glad the suggestion was helpful, and that I was able to give back to the community who excel at helping others!
Great news. Focusrite doesnāt put a version number on the Focusrite Control 2 download and no clue on their website that I could find about the version or release date. Iāve been waiting for a native ARM version. They finally released one a couple of days ago, but again, no notice from them. I found a comment in a forum or Reddit or somewhere. They could certainly do better.
Iāll fire up my new Surface Pro 11 later today and check the Focusrite driver to see if thereās a ācheck for updateā option. Hope so.
