Good morning all!
I downloaded GP last night, still in trial mode as I want to learn about how it works before I pull the trigger.
Only played with it for about an hour but so far I’m super impressed!
The last time I performed live was over 5 years ago and I used Ableton Live, but a couple of weeks ago I decided to refresh my live rig and I feel that Ableton is too limiting for me now (since I have a much larger I/O interface and a maxed out M3 MacBook, and loads of plugins).
So I want to get some feedback from users here about how I want setup my live shows, based on my preliminary test I think this is how I want to set it up:
My idea is to have each song set up perhaps as a single rack panel, where each song would have:
- Three backing tracks (routed to two stereo pair outputs),
- Two vocal inputs (with FX chain), routed to a single stereo pair.
- One guitar input (with FX chain, which will switch automatically through the song verse/chorus).
- A Click/Cue output, for IEMs.
- A Single SoftSynth/Sampler sharing an output with one of the backing tracks.
- Midi sends to control Video/back projection.
I want to be able to switch between Songs using my Controller, I usually have a matrix of buttons set up so I can just hit the button to start the song I want. It would be good If the Rack Panel could show the name of the song playing and the progress through the song (one of the few things MainStage is able to do well). I also want each output level meter showing and adjustable on the panel as the laptop would likely be with FOH and they might want to make level adjustments.
A nice bonus would be to have each song start with an audio file loop, that just repeats until I hit a “continue” key/button, which would then play the loop to end and then start the backing track + cue and click. This is good as it fills the gap between songs for the audience, and lets me wait until the other performers are ready before we hit the next song.
I had something like this set up in Ableton, but it was a faff to get right, and the above is exactly how I want it.
Anyway, thanks for reading! I look forward pushing the limits of this fascinating software!!
