GP has been a solid companion, but today it got weird. I run it on a PC/Win11 and it’s been rock solid for months.
Made some changes in audio settings today that I had made before without incident (turning on/off ins/outs on my MOTU M4 interface).
I went to change back to previous audio settings and GP crashed - repeatedly when I applied the changes (turning off 2 inputs - 3&4).
To restore my original settings, I loaded a new empty gig file and snuck in the audio in/out settings, then saved that to drive the new/old config in my original gig file when I re-loaded it again.
I did a “save” of that file…crash. I did a “save as” of that file. Crash again.
So here we are. I can’t seem to save my work without a crash.
Any other info I can provide to add helpful details? This crash issue came out of nowhere. I reported them after.
I have no idea what’s going on there, but these are the things I’d try:
Reboot (if you haven’t already)
Unplug and then reconnect the M4
Open an existing gig file, or without a gig file and start a new one; change your audio interface to anything other than your M4. Save gig, then switch back to M4 and set audio options again
Well, please pass the crow so I can eat a heaping portion of it.
Tonight, I tried to crash GP with “save” and “save as”. With the same .gig file that was crashing every time I tried last night. I had zero issues tonight - no crashing - perfect performance.
I did a couple of re-boots last night and nothing else has changed since then, but unlike last night, tonight everything is working as expected.
Grateful for the swift support from all here and my apologies for the fire drill. All appears to be just fine now. Will report back in the unlikely event that anything changes.
Yes, I was connected to wifi and using the internet. Yes, my Roland VSTs lapsed to demo mode so I did have to “phone home” to Roland Cloud. And (lol) yes I also updated to latest GP software.
Point made.
I will go see if I can find the crash log tonight.
I have found if my Roland cloud stuff reverts to demo mode it brings down GP in a spectacular way.
I had the exact same issues as you, on Mac, a few months ago. as im almost always connected to the internet I wrongly assumed the software would just do its license check automatically in the background. I didn’t realise ei had to manually log in of rig to stay activated.
Lesson leanred.
