[blog] How to install and use the Stream Deck extension in Gig Performer

If they are in this folder

C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Elgato\StreamDeck\Plugins

then no, I don’t see it and the application doesn’t show it as installed.

If they should be in a different folder, please advise.

Do I somehow need to add the extension to Gig Performer as well?

SteveC

The Gig Perfomer extensions will be in the C:/Users/Public/Public Documents/Gig Performer/Extensions folder.

Nothing there. Should the file(s) be added by Elgato when installing the plugin or do I need to add the extension some other way and then use Elgato to install the plugin?

I haven’t used this extension (I don’t have a Stream Deck), but from the instructions in the first post of the thread I believe there are two parts to the install: 1) install the part through Elgato, and 2) download the GP extension from GitHub and place that in the folder I mentioned above.

What you download from Elgato should:

  • install the Stream Deck plugin in the Elgato app
  • automatically place the extension in the right folder so that GP can recognize it.

Basically, you could do this using GitHub.

Earlier versions consisted of two files:

  • one file was the Stream Deck plugin
  • another file was the extension (it needed to be placed in the right folder manually)

OK, I just downloaded the file from github and unzipped it and then clicked on it and it installed itself on Streamdeck.

Then the next time I opened Gig Perform, it asked if I wanted to install the extension. Then it all worked so I guess there is nothing to do within Elgato.

Elgato Marketplace hosts (or it should host) the same file that is located in GitHub. It is just a convenience and more visibility for Gig Performer.

Yes, but the Elgato Marketplace installation simply didn’t work but I’m set new.

Thanks!

Steve

I just wanted to try the integration of a Stream Deck MK.2 - seems to be a great addition!

Unfortunately, I’m also struggling. After successfully installing version 1.4 (MacOS x64 from GitHub to the Stream Deck App the Extensions folder remains empty.

  • Is there a way to get the most recent dylib file separately, @timothyschoen ?
  • Might this have to do with the localization of MacOS (“shared” is called differently in the German version)?
    I’m on MacOS 14.7.1.

Thank you for your support!

What folder opens when you click on the Open Extensions Folder button?

There should be the extension.

Hi Nemanja,

this one:

However, if I copy the path (right click + option key), the path is
/Users/Shared/Gig Performer/Extensions
which looks OK, but - unfortunately - empty.

Is your macOS Apple Silicon or Intel?

That one is Intel so I installed the x64 version.

OK, try this.

Close Gig Performer.

Uninstall the Stream Deck plugin, from here:

While GP is closed, repeat the installation.
If you stumble upon any errors, please create a screenshot.

Thanks, Nemanja.

I just did:

  • Close GP
  • Uninstall the plugin
  • Restart
  • Install the plugin again
  • Start Gig Performer

The result: No errors, but also no prompt for adding an extension (the extensions folder is still empty).

Stream Deck has full access:

So:
a) the plugin part can be seen in the Stream Deck app?
b) but there is no extension in the Extensions folder?

If this is true, that suggests a permissions issue.

You’re right.

While you were typing I tried the same on my MacBook (Silicon) with the ARM version of the extension and, unfortunately, the same thing happens: Plugin installed, extension folder empty.

OK. For every install attempt, please always uninstall the plugin part from the Stream Deck app.

What happens when you extract the DMG file and try running the “.streamdeckplugin” file manually?

If that doesn’t help, extract the “.streamdeck” file as well!

You can find the actual extension in it!

Didn’t know there was another way, so that’s how I’ve done it all the time (with right click and “open”).

That .dylib looks interesting!
However, I don’t know how to extract that - the usual “show content” (or whatever it’s called in English) when you right click on a container file doesn’t exist for the “com.deskew.gigperformermacx64.streamDeckPlugin”.
