B-3X iLok warning

During rehersal, when not connected to the net, I get constant warning about not being connected. The plugin seems to keep working.

Is this just an annoying warning. How often does B-3X need to be connected to the net in order for the licensing to be ok?

The Hammond plugin from IK multimedia?

To my understanding the B-3X from IK Multimedia uses the IK Product Manager for licensing - so no dependency to iLok?

What happens if you open the IK Product Manager App and/or your iLok license manager?

What other plugins do you use in your gig file licensed by iLok?

Using no other iLok products.

Registered through the serial number in the product manager.

Kind of expected it to call home now and then, so a little bit unsure whether that warning about not being in contact with the net is just a mild warning, and that nothing bad happen in a few days.

Yes, it’s that one.

Used it for years and have never once seen a warning and definitely not an ilok warning. Very odd.

Can you post a screenshot of the warning?

Another B-3X user here. Ilok is nothing to do with B-3X as far as ive seen.
B-3X does not need to be connected to the internet, ever.

Thx guys!

I sat down and thought about what else I might have installed since I last used GP without a network connection, and there it was;

I had received three UAD plugins as free extras during purchases from Plugin Boutique.

Uninstalled these via UA Connect and uninstalled UA Connect. Problem seems to be gone.

They still show up in iLok License Manager, but as long as they’re not installed I think it will not matter.

If they show up as installed/activated or similar in the iLok manager on this machine just deactivate them!

Nice one. I was going to mention that i tried a few UAD plugins last year and got the ilok stuff on my Mac. Wasn’t keen on using ilok so got rid of it pretty quick, but still find the odd remnant of it even now.

And to add to that; UAD is one of the most annoying companies when it comes to fill up my email inbox

Yep. I know their plugins are well respected, but even getting going was a pain and I didnt feel it was worth it. Ended up having got block their emails as I unsubscribed but kept getting ‘deal’ from them.
Had ilok issues in the past (on PC) and didnt want to risk it again.

I don’t want to hijack this thread, but im curious: what problems did you experience using iLok?

I’m using the iLok License Manager as a pure SW solution (no dongles etc.) on my two macs for years now and never faced any problems? Activations, deactivating licenses works OK from my point of view for various manufacturers!

^^^ This. The same on Windows. Dongles have been a source of constant problems, including total failure, going all the way back to my first two iLok Centronics parallel printer port dongles (each one dedicated to a specific app) in the '80s.

For me it was the convoluted set up, as I didnt have an ilok account, nor a UAD account. Once these were set up they weren’t talking to each other. I had to get UAD involved to sort it out. All I wanted to do was try a couple of plugging out. Took the best part of 2 hours to get up and running. A few hours later I tried to add another plugin and couldn’t get that registered. That was enough for me.

Ah, UAD. Their plugins may be great, but their installer/updater is an intrusive PITA. Uninstalling it doesn’t remove every trace of it. It took me over 30 minutes mucking around in the registry to finally remove it completely from my system. Problem solved. UAD, along with Waves and Slate Digital, are now on my “Won’t Get Fooled Again” list.

I only wanted to try a couple of free pluggins, but their installer put what looked like everything they do on my Mac,
I have no need for any of theUAS stuff, nor anything that uses PACE either. I do have some Waves plugins but only use those in Logic or Cubase.

On another note, i had a nightmare start to last night’s rehearsal.
Ive only taken my new Macbok Pro M4 out twice. Last week i found the Roland cloud stuff was deactivated (was fine 2 hours before at home), and last night B-3X stopped me loading my gig files. Even the stand alone would crash the moment it opened. Strangely, after 4 attempts it did open, and after than i found i could use GP.
I ran GP’s plugin manager and it did list B-3X AU’s as failed, but I never use that format. After I got the standalone working I ran it again and they all passed.
Not a GP issue at all, but im now very nervous about using this at a gig on Sat.

Another thing I’m curious about (as I’m considering to test some Roland stuff).
Is your “cloud stuff” on life-time keys or on subscription?

Maybe we should open/continue in a new thread like “The wondrous world of side effects in plugin licensing”

:grimacing:
