Audio file player stops when switch variation in setlist

Hi all,

When playing live with setlist view I have an audio file playing. When changing to a new variation the audio player stops also. Is there a possibility to keep the audio file playing th eaudio file till the end and change variation in the meantime?

Hi @chucknology ,

in SetList Mode you are switching to another Song Part.
Does this other Songpart use a different variation of the same rackspace, or is it a different rackspace?

it is a different rackspace.

OK, and where is your Audio File Player located?

in the first rackspace. but I like to keep the sound going when changing to the other rackspace.

That will not work, as with change of the rackspace the ā€œoldā€ rackspace is deactivated.
You should think about using the Audio File Player in the global rackspace.

That’s what I was afraid of. But if I make it a variation it should be possible?

When you make a variation then this will work for sure.

But you can also use a 2nd instance of Gig Performer where your Audio File Player is located.

I will check the possibility of running a 2nd instance. Never used it before. Found the ā€˜how to’ on the website.
Thanks for your quick and clear responses @pianopaul

Much appreciated

It shouldn’t really be a surprise — rackspaces that are not active are, well, not active, so all plugins on that rackspace will stop when you move away from the rackspace. That’s the whole point of having a global rackspace for such things as streaming file player or even a looper plugin, so they can run continuously.

Personally (being a little weaker technically), I would try the Global Rackspace solution first (but maybe because I have used it before, whereas I have not tried to set up a 2nd instance).

HI Jeffn1, actually the global Rackspace handless this smooth. I have it working like that for the moment.
Anyone has an idea for the following:
I launch the audio clip in the audio file player with the command ā€˜play from beginning’. If on rehearsal I’d like to stop the audio clip with another button what command should I choose?

There is no ā€œreal stopā€ function yet… only a ā€œpauseā€.
You have to pause and set the playhead to zero.
I did this with the help of GP-Script.
Maybe this one helps you or gives you an idea:

Found this one also after some research. Checking what’s behind the Rackspace but it already helps me out! Thanks.

hey @pianopaul … I’m just trying this out for the first time and it’s not actually working for me … I have a single sample that I fire between one variation and the next WITHIN a same backspace and the sample stops as soon as I change to the next variation … Any ideas as to why? I also thought that this would be the obvious outcome but I cannot get it to work.

Cheers

Can you upload a small gig and the used sample?

Here’s the deal … I just created a new gig file to send you, with a single rackspace that’s causing me grief … IT works fine but inside the complete gig file it doesn’t… I haven’t changed anything within the new rackspace so there must be something within my main rackspace … I will investigate and get back to you

It’s doing weird things … I’m using the streaming audio file player to fire a sample. If I play the sample and move to the next VARIATION WITHIN the same rackspace, it will stop playing but if I return to the previous variation it will carry on playing that sample where it left off… This will happen regardless of whether I play the sample in the second variation and go to the first or play it in the first and go to the second and it always behaves the same… It will carry on playing where it left off whenever I return to the variation it was originally fired from…

Even if I fire the sample, change RACKSPACE and go back to that rackspace and select that variation, it will carry on playing where it left off…

Sorry guys… I cannot find the reason why this happens so I have decided to use KONTAKT for this purpose. It does what I expected it to do…

I actually thought that something somewhere was telling the tape head to PAUSE instead of continue playing but I have found other issues… If I go to other rackspaces and come back to this one that has about 7 or 8 variations, some of them will also fire that sample from the beginning … it’s not always predictable… So, in the end I decided to use KONTAKT and fire a note from a pad.

If you guys have any ideas, I’m willing to give them a try just to help find what causes this to happen, although I have solved the issue using another plugin…
