Does anyone have advice what to buy to use with GP ?
As a keyboard player in a 60s-80s coverband I want to remove my Kronos from the equation.
I’d like to keep using my Komplete Kontrol A61 and Arturia Keylab Essential 61 with Gig Performer & Arturia V Collection X.
But what other equipment do I need (Windows laptop, audio interface, …) ?
Any recommendations ? Thanks in advance !
Do you want to use windows ?
Hi @HansStip welcome to the GP community forum
Of course you will need a computer (Mac of PC) and a decent audio interface (There are many discussion in the forum related to choosing a computer and an audio interface). Together with your two MIDI controllers this should be a good start. Then try to use it and come back with your question.
Yes, I’m most familiar with Windows so I would like to stick with that if possible
Ok, I do not have experience on windows because I am on Mac since decades.
What physical setup do you envision? Some scenarios include:
Display
- No display during performances.
- A laptop above the keyboard.
- A tablet or small, remote display above the keyboard.
Hardware
- Everything in a rack with a patch bay intended for touring.
- Whatever. It’s for a home studio.
Your use case can help you decide if you want a mini-PC or a laptop, and if you can use any form factor, or if you want a rack-mounted unit.
Another factor is stagecraft. If you want a minimalist look with no displays and (near) zero cables, you need to plan for it.
This the setup I try to use for the coverband. It would be very helpful if you have any tips to improve this or if I am doing something wrong :
1 = Mic AKG D5 via XLR to Motu M4 Mic In 1 L
2 = Headphone Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro to Moto M4 (only for home use)
3 = Keylab Essential 61 via MIDI to Moto M4 MIDI In
4 = NI Komplete Kontrol A61 via USB 2.0 to laptop
5 = Laptop (ASUS Vivobook s Flip TP3402VA-LZ062W) with Gig Performer & Arturia V Collection X via USB 3.2 to Motu
6 = Samsung Galaxy Tab A with MobileSheets via MIDI over USB to laptop
7/8 = L/R Motu Monitor or Line Out to in 1/2 Vol/Exp Pedal
9/10 = 1/2 out Korg XVP-20 Vol/Exp Pedal to stagebox
11 = stagebox out to IEM LD Systems MEI One
12 = wireless IEM transmitter to belt pack receiver
This looks like it should do nicely. I’d say dive into GP’s manual and have hours of fun!!
