Will GP work in this situation?

Hi, all sorry for the noob question. Just got the trial version, been reading the manual and watching videos. I can’t seem to figure out if GP is going to work for my situation.
I am currently using Logic pro x for backing tracks and playing soft synths. This works pretty well but I have issues with crashes and long song loading times for the next song.

  1. Will GP allow me to selectively Loop an audio backing track section of a song (Improv / jam) then switch loop off and continue with the next song section in the backing track?
  2. Can you have multiple synth parts, VSTs, in a single song section? Can these be activated automatically in GP. Some of our song sections use 3 or more different instruments/ sounds.
  3. How long does it typically take once one song is over before the next song can start playing?
  4. Is it possible to do these things above without writing “scripts”? I don’t have time or enough brain cells to write computer code
Thanks in advance for your help in figuring all this out, GP looks like a very cool program and I’m hoping it will work for me.

Welcome @synthistor!

Are you saying that you would have one/more predefined loop regions in your track, and that once you reach that region, it will loop by default until you deactivate that loop region?
I can’t see how that could be achieved with the inbuilt GP audio player. I’m thinking you would need a specialised plugin, or run something like Ableton Live in parallel with GP.

Each song has separate ‘Song Parts’ that are based on one or more rackspace variations. These rackspaces/variations can be completely different setups, meaning that as you move through your different song parts, it will switch between completely different instruments/sounds.

If you have enough Ram to be able to pre-load everything when you first load your gig file, all switching will be instant. There is also the ‘predictive load’ feature that will just pre-load a set number of rackspaces or songs, so you can still achieve instant switching, as long as you’re following your song order and not jumping around.

A plugin such as the Mirax Lab vstPlayer might work for you. It’s only $10 as far as I can tell. Disclaimer — I haven’t tried that particular plugin myself – it’s just an example of plugins that are out there for playing/looping files.

Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge, much appreciated.
I tried the trial version of Mirax and didn’t see how that was going to work. I couldn’t map any of it’s controls to an external midi controller or to GP. The free trial version was very frustrating, frequently asking me for an activation code.
So with GP do you think there is any way to set it up so that, using a midi foot controller, you could switch between song parts (verse chorus etc)? Setting up a next and previous switch function.
Would it be possible to have a separate instance of GP Audio Player in each song part? Would it be possible to switch the audio player loop/ cycle mode on and off with the midi foot controller on the active song part?
Can you recommend a good set of video tutorials that walks you thru all the different functions of GP?

Again I really appreciate your expertise and willingness to share it !!!

Hmm, I just bought it (it’s $10) and while it’s a bit clumsy (what should one expect for $10), it actually works perfectly fine in GP. Attached is a simple gig file — you just need to add some files.

Note that you should be using widgets and host automation (not direct MIDI) to control the plugin and then you can MIDI learn the widgets so as to control from your foot controller.

You’re kinda jumping in at the deep end here though – you might want to read up on the basics of widgets and so forth, and watch some videos as well.

There are lots of videos accessible through our support page as well as full documentation. There is also an almost 2 hour video course available (through another company) but it’s not free.
