What are you using for an Amp?

What are Guitar players using for Amps/speakers? I use GP with both a guitar and keytar (playing guitar VSTs) set up and my amp sims are mostly Amplitube 5. I only gig with the keytar setup and the guitar setup is mostly for jams and home practice but I’m researching amps to see what’s out there/maybe better for me. Are FRFR speakers like the Fender FR Tonemaster or TONEX cab worth it? Or will the Presonus Air 12 PA speaker that I already own do mostly the same? Just trying to get ideas.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

If you’re going to use a cab simulator plugin, then all you ideally need is a rather good amped pa-speaker, and you could forget all about ‘shaping’ stuff like ir-loaders. The Presonus seems to be adequate to that task.

I use a set of Apple-in ears (came with my iPhone) directly connected to the headphone-out on a monitor return line of the mixer. During rehearsal I use a cx monitor, which is supposed to have a flat response (it isn’t flat, but ‘hi-fi’ enough). Everything else is done by the plugins.

If you already have that Presonus and a usable cab simulator plugin, then I would start there. If it s****, then you can spend money after all.

I used to use IRs but now only use Neutron studios quantum speakers. With that, you just want any decent full range speakers.

Hi,

It depends on how you setup your rackspaces. We use the Voxengo Boogex with several impulse cabinets, but mainly VOX. As an amp you can use any decent PA setup. I myself use an acoustic guitar amplifier for rehearsals due to the fact that it has a more or less straight frequency range from about 20Hz to 20kHz. When I need more power I connect it to an active monitor that has a comparable frequency range, but a PA with these specs is OK as well.
