Vocal processing with audio pitch detection

Hello!

I play guitar in a covers band and would like to retire the TC Helicon Voicelive 3 which I’ve been using to generate backing vocal harmonies and doubling. The device analyses the chords I’m playing on the guitar for the harmonies. Is there anything similar in a VST that could be used within GP? I’m sure there must be something available but if so I haven’t managed to find it.

Perhaps this :

Together with this to generate the MIDI notes :

Thank you! I’ll check out the Midi Guitar trial version.

I have tried many VSTs (including the Waves and Antares plugins) to replace my TC Helicon Perform-VK regarding harmonizing.
Unfortunately, nothing comes close.

Those are great for the robotic vocoding sounds you hear in today’s pop music. But if you are looking for as natural a sound as possible, the Helicon is the way to go. I swapped it out for a few months last year, but found myself going back to it.

Fortunately, GP allows for MIDI Out blocks where I can send the info to the Helicon from anywhere on any keyboard and map it to meet the proper vocal range.

This is how the Waves Harmony sounds:

Decades ago I checked this

Did you buy it and test it to make sure you didn’t need it???

Exactly

Then I decided to use a hardware solution, TC Helicon Rack.
Then I decided not so sing anymore …

So the final solution not to sing anymore was not cheap and therefore a wise decision.

When I would sing now it would be a waste of money

I had to use Waves Harmony with GP on a show without really knowing how to use both software because my band’s visas didn’t come through in time & had to get last minute replacements (no backup singers though). It worked really well! Used it like that guy in the vid, playing the notes on the keys. So ya, I also recommend it.

Waves Harmony V15 is currently on sale for <40$/€

I was also looking for something to do harmonies - it’s shame Waves can’t get the guitar chord recogonition built in as having to buy 2 plugs ins/ get them to work together , latency risk etc seems like it’s not a great solution

In the end I bought the Waves Harmony but as you say it doesn’t do the chord recognition. As a temporary (?) solution for a couple of the songs I’ve produced a midi chord track synced up to the audio backing track which feeds the plug in with the chords for the backing vocals, vocoder-style. It sounds ok but it’s obviously not something that can be used for anything spontaneous.

yes I thought of going midi as well. To be honest I think for now I am going keep things super simple and just leave the BVs on the backing tracking and then come back to a plug in option or maybe look for a simpler TC pedal perhaps. I am now looking at the double and shimmer options. Downloaded a free Izotope doulber but that added mega latency so wondered if you did any double type fx. I am going to experiement with just a very short delay and then I was wonder whether to put that in the main chain so it goes through all the other fx etc or route it around and mix the delay ( fake double ) back in. Only got to this yesterday so we’ll see. Any insight welcome thank you - have a great weekend

Yes, I did the same thing with that Izotope download, with the same results!

The Waves Harmony has got various doubling and ensemble settings which of course can be used without any additional note info so I’ve got that assigned to a footswitch and will be trying it out for the first time at tonight’s gig for BVs. Previously I’d set up something with a short delay and a bit of modulation which I could bring in and out independent of the dry vocal which worked pretty well. We’ll see how it goes tonight.

Thanks good luck tonight. I don’t think I am going to shell out for Waves harmony just for the double so will try the delay. If you have any suggested delay plugin, wiring / settings that you feel worked as a starting point when you get a minute that would be much appreciated thanks
