VidPlayVST - Video player plugin

Has anybody looked at this plugin lately?

They seem to have 64-bit VST3 version now.

I played around with it a few months ago. Nothing too in-depth.
It supports multiple screens along with multiple display modes, detachable windows, MIDI cueing, position sync etc.
There isn’t much in the way of applicable host automation parameters.

I looked at it briefly for a personal use case that is a little bit silly, but nothing wrong with being a little silly.

I like to toy with technology, and I use GigPerformer to play and SongMaster Pro a lot when learning a song, practicing a song, or with the quality and speed of stem separation these days, playing along with a song and silencing the parts I’m doing live.

Since I’m already playing a specific part along with the real audio track I thought it would be fun to do that with the official music videos as well.

I thought that if that was going to be worth my effort I need a video player that will sync with whatever I’m using for control. In my particular current setup I use SongMaster as the master. That’s where I pick my songs, mute channels, set loops, and adjust pitch or tempo if I want.

So the question I’ve been trying to figure out is “what video player is going to let me do that.”

As I think you mentioned is another thread somewhere, there are a number of “pro” solutions for syncing video to music that will operate over OSC. But those are expensive, and personally because this is kind of a frivolous experiment for me I’m not willing to pay for those just to amuse myself in my basement.

As far as I have gotten is narrowing my realistic video player options down to VidPlay or OBS Studio. Neither one fits cleanly with how I’d like it to work, so that’s kind of where I’m at.

I think I’ve figured out all I’m going to figure out by reading stuff and just need to download one or both and see what I can hack together.

OBS Studio has the advantage of working with OSC (via a plugin) so there’s an easy path to OSC control there, which makes it compatible in theory with GP and SongMaster. But that’s a third app to try to keep coordinated and I haven’t looked into how I’d communicate to it what video file to load for each song, etc.

VidPlay (as far as I know) does not support OSC, but if I can run it as a plugin inside GigPerformer (presumably in the global rackspace) maybe I can accomplish what I need that way. One problem (to my knowledge) is neither GP nor SongMaster has the core capability of syncing up with SMPTE, i-frames, or whatever else is going to keep my audio tracks in sync with the video.

I thought about posting a question on this topic myself a few times, but figured my question would probably be met with crickets or suggestions to look at the (expensive) pro options.
