I have a short question. It’s not a real question, but I need some input and feelings from the community.
For the last months I used keyscape a my preferred piano plug in. But there is something missing.
Today I installed the demo of pianoteq and surprise, it feels better for me.
After that I used the Italian grand from my stage 3 and it was like coming home. I like my stage very much, but I also like the positive things of GP and plug ins.
So the solution could be a hybrid setup. But I have two and a half problem:
Splits are not so good on the stage. I think you know what I mean. It’s possible but you have to think about it.
I’m using ripchord often. Do you have experience about the latency of the following signal path? Local off at stage. Via usb to gp and than back to the Nord ? Audio will be direct from Nord to the mixer.
Half problem because point 2. Could be the solution or a part of it. My pedal board is connected via Bluetooth to my Mac and no cable to stage.
Do you have any comments, suggestions or ideas for this absolutely luxurious problem ?
Last time I used ‘local off’ in a 2 keys + rack situation is 20+ yrs ago - it was not feeling good (Stuck notes, latency by a HW MIDI merger etc.). I think this might have become better with a computer based setup and USB MIDI.
I’m still in the final stage to switch over from a hybrid setup (Kurzweil Forte SE) to GP standalone.
I use my hybrid setup different - splits for the remaining parts in the Forte are easy, so I just need to define my local zone(s) + a full MIDI zone for GP to do whatever is needed.
I think this is the casus-knacksus in your Nord split setup.
Audio from the Forte is also routed through GP to provide a final and balanced mix from the audio interface outs,
I switched over form the Kurzweil Pianos to the Pianoteq meanwhile, so my last real hybrid patches are due to sounds on the Forte I have not recreated on GP so far (for whatever reason).
And of course: you have to get used to the Pianoteq to gain this coming home feeling here as well For me it’s now the other way around when playing the Kurzweil only
For new songs I definitly will go GP only - much more comfortable - and more or less independent from the keyboard controllers you can use!
After a few hours of thinking. It’s not possible to use The Nord in a way I would like.
Local off on The Nord is not only the keys… it’s everything All knobs are sending midi messages, but no LED is shown… very bad for my use case.
I bought Pianoteq an hour ago and it will be my new Piano
I use both Nord Stage pianos and VST pianos in my rig and do not experience any issues. It sounds like midi note data routed back to the nord might be the issue regarding sluggishness. I have my rig so that the nord only send midi and do not rcv. I like to use the synth section on my Nord to control VST synth patches. I map the cutoff, resonance and other common synth parameters to a rack adn then to a vst. That gives me the visual I need to see the value of cutoff or resonance but still use the nord’s knobs and buttons. You are correct, the nord knob LEDs will not respond to incoming midi. I can show you more if this is something you want try but it sounds like you have a solution.
