Using identical USB Midi Interfaces

Howdy

Quick question.
If I wanted to use to Roland UM-1 cables for two different controllers how would I go about giving them their own “identity”
GP sees them independently (denoted with a 1) but both controllers are not working as I hoped they would. Up till now I used a different brand for each PK-5.
Is this even possible?

Thank you in advance!!

Rig Manager. This was one of the reasons we invented it.
In one of my bands I had three identical Roland A800 controllers

I get that. I am having trouble using two identical usb-midi cables.
Rig Manager displays them as UM-ONE and UM-ONE - 1, which I assume is correct.
Then when I assign one PK5 to either they both play.

I didn’t know GP labeled the USB cables. I just thought it labeled controllers (for which you can create aliases in the Rig Manager).

Apologies, I see you’re probably using two sets of those cables, not splitting one set between two controllers.

Up till now I was using
1x M-Audio USB midi cable for PK5-1
1x Roland USB midi cable for PK5-2

I started having issues with the M-Audio cables and figured I might as well use the same BRAND of cables for each controller. That’s where I am running into an issue with getting GP to see two identical cables independently. Maybe it cant be done since they are exactly the same.

Yeah, those Roland ‘cables’ are actually MIDI interfaces with built in cables, so its added another layer of complexity x 2 between your controller and GP. You might be better off with a small 2-input DIN to USB interface and plugging both of your controllers into that.

I used to use this one (still have it, but don’t need it).

That’s what I was thinkin.
I was lookin at this one as well. CME H4MIDI WC

Nice, even more features on that one you found.
30 day refund, definitely worth trying it out.

Well I could always keep the extra Roland UM-one as a backup. LOL

Ok I think I figured it out.
While setting up at a gig I just need to plug in the first cable and assign it to PK5 1 then plug in the second one and assign it to PK5 2.
Works like a charm now but just requires that extra step.
