Hi folks, I have an RME Babyface Pro FS interface and I’m trying to figure out how to route through Gig Performer so that I can add compressors and other plugin effects to my vocals, on the signal coming in, printed onto the vocals.
Has anybody figured this out and can please share?
just route the signal from your AUDIO In Plugin to the effects you want and route that to your AUDIO Out Plugin.
As AUDIO IN and AUDIO Out Plugin you choose your RME Interface.
In TotalMix the Signals coming from Gig Performer are the so called Software Returns.
In TotalMix there are 2 modes, best you select the mode where the software return can be routed to the physical outputs.
With an RME Audio interface, TotalMix Fx and GP you have a lot of options and the most important is to understand the concepts mentioned by @pianopaul.
Hardware Inputsof TotalMix correspond to Audio Inputsof GP, but both TotalMix and GP have their own mixer faders which are applied independently to the audio inputs. A TotalMix fader set to zero on your Mic doesn’t mean that the level of the same Mix in GP will be zeroed.
Audio Outputsof GP correspond to Software Playbacksof TotalMix. So, you won’t necessarily hear something if you route a plugin to the Audio Outputs of GP, these Audio Outputs (i.e. Software Playbacks in TotalMix) have to be routed to an Hardware Output within TotalMix (its is usually done by default)
Hardware Outputsof TotalMix are not seen in GP. That’s where you have to route the Hardware Inputs and Software Playbacks (i.e. the GP Audio Outputs) to your PA system, headphone of whatever.
Hope this makes the relation between GP and TotalMix Fx clearer. Nota: I am not talking about the RME DAW mode that I never used, because I am very happy with the many TotalMix routing options.
I’m hoping to still be able to still use my Babyface Pro input / output, while printing vocals running through Gig Performer… I read that someone else could only do this by using BlackHole 2ch.
But it sounds like what @pianopaul is saying seems simple enough.
I will try what you suggest and I will follow up if I have any more questions. Thanks!
Totalmix is not easy to get to grips with at first, but there are some excellent tutorials to familiarize you with the software’s many features.
