Using a simple Bluetooth Footswitch. Do i need the sustain block?

Ive just got the Boss FS-1-WL to use as a sustain pedal and Next song part controller.
It works perfectly for both uses, but im wondering about how its set up.
Ive seen the Blog article that explains about using a Sustain only Midi block. I started to add this to my Rackspace, but then realised it was already working as i want it to without the block.
I wont have any other pedals connected, and have the 3rd foot switch set to CC64, and the left one to the same as i have my controller button set to (CC14). I also use the sustain pedal to switch Leslie speeds, which again works perfectly.

With this in mind, and i will not be using any other external controller, and nothing else is sending CC64, am i missing something by not using the sustain block?

There are several reasons to use a separate block for sustain. The obvious one is that you have a pedal attached to a separate keyboard controller.

But suppose you have a MIDI In block connected to two plugins, a piano and strings, that you’re layerings. Now you’d like to sustain the piano but not the strings, or vice versa.

Now you’re going to need a separate MIDI In block and you’re going to want to disable the Sustain message in one of them and disable everything BUT the sustain pedal in the other.

So it’s convenient to have a separate preset that is just the MIDI In block with everything but the sustain message disabled.

Right, so unless i am doing the one midi block to to sound sources there is no real advantage.
I dont do that, at least not for different types of instrument, but do have sustain turned off for strings when im layering with piano.
I can see what you’re getting at, and have considered that already, but im just trying to avoid having to go through all my Rackspaces and add in the block, when to me its already working fine.
Obviously if i come across one or two that needs it i know what to do, but i cant see any downside at this stage.
