OK - so I have had a Quick Look at setlist/songs/song parts. So I can see that variations can be called from songs/song parts, and here they are recalled as saved, not as last edited, which was what I was after. Just to add my feedback however as someone approaching this from a slightly different viewpoint (and aware that this is likely a minority view as a non-keyboardist):
So far I have been approaching GP as a way to create a virtual guitar effects pedalboard. While these are getting more sophisticated, they generally offer ‘presets’ which can be recalled at any point at the press of a switch. Some, notably the industry standard Line6 Helix, offer ‘snapshots’ which are literally variations of a preset. These line up very closely with GP’s rackspaces and variations, so I was looking for a ‘simple’ way to recall these similar to pressing a switch on a foot pedal.
So no issue with using songs/song parts to do this especially now I can see that song parts have buttons, almost like foot switches on a floor pedal - in fact it would be grand to see buttons for Songs as well
However the part that is confusing is: why have them recalled as saved when using songs/songparts, but not when using Variations?
So as a suggestion, either:
Add the “Also Reset on Variation Activation” option to Variations, or:
Remove the ability to recall Rackspaces/Variations with MIDI from Rackspace/Variations, and explicitly state in the manual that this section is for editing Rackspaces/Variations only, and that Songs/Song Parts is where you set up MIDI recall.
(happy to be fully corrected on all the errors above!)
…and basically anyone who does the song management on an external device, for example using OnSong.
They would be creating songs in OnSong just to call a song in Gig Performer just to get to the desired rackspace/variation.
I also avoided setlist mode when I still did the song selection on my Kronos.
following up on this thread. I’m having a weird issue with widget states in PANELS working fine but then playing up in setlist view.
EVERYTHING is working as should be and all my processes are exactly the same in all songs and all settings are also the same. I have found this to work perfectly and I haven’t changed any process for ages.
The issue is the following. So, in Ableton I have link activated always and in GP I activate GPs Ab link on demand via a widget. I have a song with variations (2) and in Panels view they activate correctly. i.e. Var1 inactive and I activate on demand … Var2 active always. The issue is that in setlist view, when I chose Var2 ab link is inactive. ALL other widgets act perfectly in all rackspaces. It’s ONLY the ableton link widget…
Can this have anything to do with it being assigned to the “link function”?
No snapshots. I’ve actually found another widget in this same Rackspace that also is not respecting the variation change I have saved in panels. It does not change state in setlist view.
It’s a simple change. I’ve done it a thousand times and yet it puzzles me because I cannot find the cause.
This is the actual gig file. The RackSpace is called 19 TECHNO, variations DIVA 01 & DIVA 02 and the song in setlist is called DIVA
Let’s see if we can get to the bottom of this because it’s driving me crazy.
I just realized that I had not selected DIVA 02 in rackspace selection…
Bloody hell… the most simplest thing.
I cannot believe I missed that… I always have “rackspace selection” hidden once I create the song and I must have selected DIVA 01 on both song variations without realizing.
