I have 16 separate wav files (of short backing track phrases) that i need to trigger at various points during a song. Currently, I’m doing that using a single rackspace with 16 separate instances of the Audio File Player plugin, each of which is mapped to a different note associated with my keyboard’s pads (Keylab).
Is that the best way or is there a more efficient approach?
From what I’ve now read, Tal-Drum seems to be a big favourite for this use case. Lots of options, thanks!
I was keen to understand if I’d been missing something obvious with Audio File Player, but that doesn’t look like the case.
I guess another option would be to build a template Rackspace with 16 instances of AFP all mapped to the pads, and then just copy / paste as necessary. Just changing the samples loaded each time.
Another free sampler option is the Decent Sampler, which GigPerformer can export compatible sample sets, with it’s Auto Sampler feature (as well as Kontakt compatible samples).
Sitala is very simple and practical for trigging oneshot sounds, but it lacks the note on/note off function for stopping them at a given moment.
Of course, Siatala is basically designed for drums, not start/stop.
It’s a pity because I haven’t found a simple sampler like Sitala to do this.
I used to use ShortCircuit but it only existed in 32bit and I now avoid bridging plugins so I’m left with Kontakt which finally does the trick, even if it means using sophisticated software to trigger 3 or four samples here and there.
