Tap Delay

I did a few attempts to create a tap button for delays. The button in the plugin is a momentary key. But when I assign you key with the green LED to control it it allways becomes a toggle switch, so i´m taping half the delay time I want.

Is there a trick to achieve that?

I’m sorry but I don’t quite understand — to what does “button in the plugin” refer? The “tap” mechanism only works by sending a MIDI message (or the OSC message /tap) from an external device. There is no button inside Gig Performer for doing Tap Tempo, although it may be that we should add that. Our assumption was that anyone doing tap tempo would be doing it from a MIDI pedal.

Okay. That´s the answer to the question.
The button in the plugin IS the Tap Tempo button. I thought I can remote control that also from a button in the rackspace.

Interesting. What’s the plugin? I’ll take a look at it? But generally, it is Gig Performer itself that measures incoming “taps” and sets the BPM for plugins that care.

There’s always room for improvement in my book, even if not immediately.

I tried the delays inside Guitar Rig. The Space Echo for instance. I understand that it makes sense to use the global tempo feature inside GP but right now I don´t have an external button / pedal available to tap it so one in the rackspace would be nice.

If you have a keyboard, you could always learn a key that you don’t actually use in your song.

Alternatively, here’s a hack way to do it if you want.

Download the free “MidiKeys” app (MidiKeys - notes from flit) and run it- It will display a small MIDI keyboard

Go to the Global MIDI options in Gig Performer, click the Learn to learn Tap Tempo, and then click on a key in MidiKeys. Then turn off the Learn in Gig Performer.

Now, you can just tap your mouse on that key in MidiKeys and Gig Performer will get Tap Tempo events

That´s a way to do it! I can just use the lowest key on the keyboard to tap the tempo.
Thanks David.
