I’m using several of the Ujam virtual basses. Now and then when in auto pattern mode (where the pattern follows chord input), a certain note will play noticeably louder. I’m looking for a plugin that can be used to lower the volume (not frequency) of a selected note in a pattern. I’ve looked at Scaler EQ on Plugin Boutique and it seems that it might do what I want. Has anyone tried this plugin, or recommend something that will do what I want? Cheers.
is it playing the note louder because when you played the chord your velocity was not even across all notes?
If so could you just change the velocity curve for that part of your split to be a fixed velocity or shelved at a certain value max?
Chords are used to tell the bass pattern player what notes to play. The notes are not user accessible as they are in a loop.
^^ yes but how do you input the chord? are you playing it once to define it or is it being generated from a non-human source completely?
I input the chord via keyboard. Do you think I might be hitting some chord notes too hard?
this is a possiblity, it’s what I am suggesting you try to rule out.
if you keyboard is velocity sensitive (most are) and your plugin is velocity sensitive (most are) you are almost certainly hitting the notes of your chords at slightly different velocities.
Some keyboards are particularly bad at getting the velocity sensitivity between white and black keys equal, for instance. It’s common for black keys to be hit quicker and therefore sound louder because velocity = amplitude on a midi keyboard. Just an example.
You could experiment with the curve editor on the midi in block of your keyboard that is routed to this plugin you are having issue with and try to make it a fixed velocity input like this:
or limit the scale and curve characteristics like this:
just some suggestions. I’d rule this out and attempt to adjust it here before you try to solve it after the fact with audio processing.
Ok, thanks for your input. I have five of the Ujam bases, and cannot remember which one is at fault. I’ll track it down next time I have a play. Cheers.
