Switching from stereo to mono

Hello folks,

I need some help how to switch my rackspaces from stereo to mono (I already did a search in the forum here, but didn’t find a definitive answer and explaination). Currently all my rackspaces are stereo and I guess at least a few (e.g. with B3 organ + leslie) make use of stereo. In my new band the mixing guy wants a mono signal in live situation. I now have the following possibilites to convert my rackspaces into mono:

  1. Switch every VST instrument/effect to mono and build the compelte signal path mono.
  2. Let GigPerformer just sum up the right and the left channel to produce a mono signal (e.g. in the global rackspace).
  3. Use a dedicated VST plugin to produce the the mono signal (which VST?)

Which solution (and why) would you prefer? I guess solution 1 would be the best regarding sound, but definitely would require lots of work and will not allow me to switch back to stereo at some time. Would solution 2 or 3 sound worse (and why?)? What would be the difference between solution 2 and 3? Perhaps someone has a deeper knowledge on these topics and is willing to share that.

Thanks
Wolfgang
