Any reason my piano would suddenly have a reversed sustain pedal (sustained when not pressed)
I don’t remember changing anything - and I had to go into my Arturia keylab essential 88 and reverse it as a fix - for now

Another reason to use Rig Manager.
For a MIDI control Alias you can reverse the polarity.
No need to adjust any settings in plugins.
Some keyboards switch polarity when you hold the pedal pressed while powering up.
This might happen by accident quite easily, and you can also quite easily check if this is what happened to you.
Hold the pedal, switch the keyboard on, see what happens…
See also Arturia’s FAQ (“acting on the pedal”), which i could instantly find with a brief Google search, even if i don’t own that controller…

As @schamass said, plus, some keyboards switch polarity if you power up before inserting the pedal.
I advise to always make sure to have the pedal inserted (and not pressed down) BEFORE powering up. That way the polarity check during power up should always be OK.
Some (most?) sustain pedals have a physical switch on them (sometimes on the side) to switch polarity.
So, I guess another possibility is that switch got moved to the wrong position.
Indeed
Sigh- yes I already googled that (but thanks for the tip )
You could also search sustain pedal under the community to see if anyone had the same issues - specific to GP and my specific controller. Which js where I go first AFTER searching the manual.
I tried unplugging and booting up WITHOUT my foot on the pedal. Rebooted and powered on multiple times.
I also tried polarity switch on the pedal.
All of this was done in practice while waiting to move on
I specifically mentioned Arturia keylab88 essential because I figured there may be something glitchy
I went into Arturias controller and reversed the settings on the actual controller and that worked - still begs the question - WHAT caused it to suddenly change. Maybe there was something I did? Maybe it was a glitch - maybe it was because I replaced the VST from the Arturia piano to the pianoteq - the point is I STILL DONT KNOW.
I think it’s time we stop assuming that everything is solvable reading the manual or googling.
Not in every instance - but sometimes it’s worth asking the question and see if someone else has had the same experience.
While that is true for “everything”, it is still the case that the manual (including Arturia’s manual if it’s an Arturia issue), googling and (for those who have it) ChatGPT are still extremely efficient resources. In fact, these days I tend to turn to ChatGPT first, before even googling.
@jweisgal
One thing you might check is the user settings on your Essential. I’m not sure if its the same, but several times on my Arturia Mkll I have encountered problems such as this only to discover that I had accidentally switched USER number (which contains entirely diffferent settings saved).
Thanks - im finding that the essential while lightweight and convenient - has some quirks when it comes to control - (hence the post)
