I’m having a hard time finding reviews or recommendations for string library VSTs that sound good in a live band situation. There are many great ones for use within a DAW for mockups, etc, but anyone know of good ones that will cut through in a live performing setting? Perhaps the ones that sound good in DAW recording will also sound good in a live setting? I don’t know.
Thanks for any help…
Do you need different articulations?
For Strings I am using different libraries:
Novo
Strings Ensemble from Native Instruments
And (as a secret weapon) Omnisphere Strings.
And sometimes I am mixing acoustic strings with Solina Strings (Arturia, Syntronik and
GForce Virtual String Machine)
Thanks for the info! I just need a few basic articulations. I just purchased Omnisphere and am going through the sounds. What strings patches in O do you like for live setting? I will check out the other products you mentioned. Thanks!
As I remember I am often using “Hollywood Strings”
After long searching and testing, I can strongly recommend ProjectSam Orchestral Essentials.
Limited articulations but ready to play with two hands in a live situation. As it requires NI Kontakt anyway, it can be blended with NI Kontakt library sounds, for example with some solo celli or double basses, for more definition in the lower notes.
And yes, I like to layer some Holywood String Sections by Omnisphere.
This is my strings trinity, an absolute orchestral weapon!
I use Plugsound Pro from UVI. It is a GM module but the strings do sound good. Also Striiiings (yes, many i’s!) from Ujam if you want string sounds with a built in sequencer.
Thanks for the rec! I’ll check them out.
