Ouch. That’s really a bug
Watching this. I had made a note for myself to pick up this plugin. But, I am now pretty “stingy” in terms of installing new plugins.
Everything is working well for me (fingers crossed) and I might not even really use this. You really have to weigh the time and potential headaches in adding a new plugin (even putting aside the cost).
So, if there are reported issues, I prefer to just stay away.
When I remove the plugin from wiring view, GP goes back to normal in the activity monitor.
What happens with the OSX Activity Monitor, not GP internal.
I’m on Windows 11 Pro. I created a rackspace with Cherry Audio’s GX-80 (VST3) routed to Soundtoys SpaceBlender (VST3). With both bypassed, the reported CPU usage is 0%. When I unbypass the GX-80, CPU usage rises to 2%. When I then unbypass the SpaceBlender, CPU usage rises to 11%. When I play the GX-80 through it, CPU usages rises a bit, toggling between 11% and 12%. Never higher.
So, the VST3 version on Windows seems to work just fine, with no CPU spiking.
Awesome little plugin. I have the full Soundtoys bundle, and this is a nice addition to it.
That is in the OSX Activity Monitor. GP starts out at 6%. Insert SpaceBlender into the wiring view and GP (in the OSX Activity Monitor) jumps to 128%. Remove SpaceBlender from the wiring view and GP (in the OSX Activity Monitor) jumps back down to 6%.
In the Windows Task Manager, GP uses around 20-21% CPU as soon as it instantiates. Adding SpaceBlender adds maybe 1-2% more.
OK, seems to be a Mac specific issue.
Just got an email from soundtoys.
They confirm the cpu issue with Intel Mac
I’m using it with an AMD 5800H Beelink Mini PC, and also have crazy high CPU usage. Even when removed from the signal chain and bypassed. My CPU temps jump from 60 to 80 Celsius and I can hear my fan is working full speed to try and cool my PC.
This plugin sounds amazing though, I’m hoping there’s a bug causing this and it really isn’t that CPU intense on purpose!
I already incorporated it into some of my sounds before realizing it was driving my CPU very hard
Can you please contact Soundtoys support and report to them?
So they see that I am not the only one and that the issue is not only on Intel Mac.
Thx
Good idea. Just did. Hopefully they can find the source of this high CPU usage. The plugin sounds awesome and I’m really looking forward to using it live.
