Question… This is what most of my rackspaces look like… Does anyone have any good or brilliant ideas on how to name your midi-ins, rather than just having them getting a new number for each new instance. The sounds is obviously not an issue, as I will name according to what VST I use, and the patch. But I have several rackspaces, where I have up to 5 midi in’s on my lower keys and maybe 4 on my upper keys… How are the rest of you sorting and keeping track?

Of course I know that already! Was just looking for tips from other users on HOW they rename them, i.e call it “upper keys organ” or “lower keys strings” etc…
Why do you need all those midi monitors?
Because I have so many different sounds and splits.

I play a dual keyboard rig, with a Nord on top and a Korg on the bottom. I name my midi in blocks Korg low, korg mid, korg high, nord low, nord low mid, nord high mid, nord high.
Not particularly brilliant, but better than numbers.
I have one song where the entire top 8va of the Nord has each key assigned to a different SFX plugin. In that case, they’re Nord low, Nord high, Nord C, Nord D, Nord E, …
Oh, that sounds complicated too. For playing around, I only have one master keyboard, so I named the blocks with numbers because it doesn’t matter. I have a separate two-octave keyboard just for sound samples. That has its own name as a MIDI block.
Seems like I’m weird, I name them after the patch that they will control, “piano,” “strings” etc. The plug-in instances will be named with the vst name and the patch name or my own description of what sound I am using it for, like if I am using an instance of the Arturia Jupiter-8 recreation and a synth strings patch, I might name it something like “jup-8 synth strgs.” To my mind, the use of the MIDI in block (e.g. to control the strings part) should be decoupled from the fact of which physical source it comes from. Like, I might change my mind and decide to play the strings part from my bottom keyboard instead of the top one; so then I would change its MIDI source from the context menu, but the name of the block stays the same.
I then have widgets in the panel bound to the MinNote, MaxNote, Transpose and Bypass properties of each MIDI input block so I can have different configurations (Variations) to be able to reuse the same rackspace in different ways, in different Songs and Song Parts.

I don’t have a fixed naming convention, but I try to name them according to their intended use - for example, “Upper Strings – Left”, “Upper Organ – Right”, “Lower Piano” or “Sustain 4 Upper”
I play with two midi controller keyboards and a two tier keyboard stand. I use rig manager and name them Top Keybd and Bottom Keybd. I sometime use different keys for rehearsal, so it’s easy - I just reassign using rig manager, takes two seconds. And I can easily swap out if a controller dies.
