New to GP and the forum with my first post and a question. I am using the full version of GP and have all of my VST’s set up and assigned to songs in setlist mode which are working great. I have midi program changes working to change charts on the iPad in MobileSheets. Loving GP!
I am trying to use Jamzone for tracks playback and select songs from GP. Unfortunately Jamzone has no ability to recall specific songs via midi command and was wondering if anyone has ideas on how to create a workaround. I’ve considered Ableton, but don’t have the time or the budget for that right now. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the response. I considered that, but I need multitrack audio files and not sure of the capabilities/limitations of GP in that respect. I like to have the option to unmute certain instruments in case a player cannot make the gig, etc. The native app also gives me the ability to transpose and change tempos very easily. I will continue to look into your suggestion and appreciate your response.
I have Logic Pro but don’t want to add another layer of complexity to the mix. I am the MD, covering all the keys, mixing 8 stereo IEM’s auxes in addition to FOH, so my plate is full. That is why I am wanting to automate charts on the iPad and playback song selection within the Jamzone app utilizing messages from GP. I may have to eventually bite the bullet and dive into Ableton which would solve the problem. I’ve already reached out to Jamzone requesting midi implementation within their app. Thanks for your input!
I moved to Stage Traxx for many reasons including this one for when I need to use backing tracks. Very flexible MIDI capabilities which makes it easy to integrate with GigPerformer. As a side note, the backing tracks in Jamzone are available for purchase on https://www.karaoke-version.com which I believe is the same company. I’m happier buying the BT outright rather than the subscription model Jamzone uses.
I just got this reply from them - it would seem that they do in fact support some MIDI control
Jamzone does indeed offer the capability to manage shortcuts using MIDI signals within the app. This feature allows for the real-time control you described. You can find more detailed information and instructions in the following article: How to create and assign custom keyboard or MIDI shortcuts on MacOS (Pro)? - Welcome to Jamzone help
Please note that this functionality is available on macOS and iOS devices with our Pro subscription.
I’ve heard of Stage Traxx and will look into it. I looked at buying the tracks directly from Karaoke Version, but discovered the the licensing per song for public use is prohibitively expensive. You are correct, Jamzone is owned by Karaoke Version. Going with Jamzone includes the public license as part of the Pro version subscription. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks for forwarding this along. I have the Pro version and looked at the Midi capabilities and they do offer custom key strokes for their limited functionality, such as next/previous song, stop/start etc. What they don’t have from what I can see is the ability to assign a midi CC message to a select a particular song. I could arrange set lists to go in order utilizing next/previous song, but we don’t work that way and prefer to read the room. I’ll have a look through the documentation link you provided. Thanks for the help! This community is amazing.
Some people set up GP so they can pick a song with a button/icon. For example, search the word “finder” in the forum.
(I also find it pretty quick to do a word search in the setlist).
