Shutting Down and Release of Ram

On my Windows machine, once I close down GP, it takes a long time for the memory to be released by GP (I watch it in the Windows Task Manager).

If I shut down to soon, I get an error message (I am sorry, I forget what it was. I think it says it was unable to close and gives me the option to force the program to shut down).

I tend to not want to see any error messages. So, I usually walk away and come back and check that the ram was released before shutting down the computer (I think could be 15 minutes or maybe more?).

But, sometimes that is not a great option (shutting down after a gig and another band is coming on, etc.)

Do you Windows gurus think that forcing the shut down is something to be avoided? Or am I being silly? Any thoughts? Do, other people just force the shut down and never have a problem?

Thanks,

Jeff

It depends on the application being forced to close. For GP itself I don’t think that should be a problem: as far as I know it is not saving things to disk when shutting down.

The plugins however is another thing. Theoretically a plugin could be saving things to disk when being deactivated. It would be not very wise for a plugin to do that, but it is possible.

Without guarantees: 99 percent of the time it will not harm to force the shutdown, depending on the plugins.

I hope this helps…

Thx, Frank. That is helpful.
