Safp or audio player

What uses more Cpu power, 8 times SaFp for backingtracks or 1 audio player with 8 tracks?

If one ‘normal’ audio player fits the case, I would go for that. Less clutter in the wire-view, one gui, etc. If you need the extras of the SAFP, well…, not much choice then.

One plugin instead of eight is likely to use less cpu, particularly because the ‘normal’ audio player has less features. But I think the difference in cpu usage between the two setups is not the biggest concern.

I thought of this while safp is streaming and streaming uses more cpu. And audio player has loaded the mp3

I Just tried to use audiofile player instead of SAFP but it does’nt seem to work for me, I think I need an external player for my backingtracks one that doesn’t use much CPU. A combination of an SAFP and an audio player would be nice.

Out of interest, no criticism: what are you missing in the audio file player, apart from streaming?

You can use them in tandem or have them synced to the Global playhead.

While I am using 10 instances of SAFP with 30 songs. it seems to use a descent amount of CPU while streaming. An Audio file player loads first al the tracks and uses a lot less CPU power. But then again I would have to put 30 audio players in Global Rack Space and if I had 50 or 60 songs It would be rather inefficient. So I would like to see an audio player that loads the audio and have the capabilities of a SAFP.

Then it will still be streaming and that is for me the issue. because I play 10 tracks at the same time while I have 2 keyboards playing different VST Plugins at the same time.

You can use a separate instance for audio tracks.
That will be more CPU friendly.

By capabilities you mean the actions and all that? Because if the tracks are preloaded it wouldn’t be a Streaming Audio File Player anymore.

BTW, if disk storage isn’t a problem, using uncompressed stereo wave files sampled at the same sample rate of the audio settings should make quite a difference when it comes to cpu usage. In that case streaming becomes just I/O bound.
