Running keyboards through a USB HUB

If you are running to keyboards though a USB hub, I am assuming Rig Manager will recognize them as two difference devices?

I would then just create an alias for each of them in Rig Manager?

[Up to now I have only used my upper synth keyboard. But, now I am tempted to purchase Komplete Select and use Scarbee Mark 1 with my lower weighted keyboard as the controller. So I ordered a small powered USB hub so I can start using both of my keyboards through GP].

I think it is always the case that your system and GP will see the individual devices connected to the Hub, not the Hub itself.
However, use of Rig Manager has so many benefits that you should use it regardless.

Thank you

I duplicate keyboard rigs at home and for gigs. (And occassionally I’ll switch them).

The top is always a Casio CTK 7200

The bottom is always a Casio PX350

Will GP treat the two duplicate keyboards the same? (Without using Rig Manager)

So, will my setup behave the same with my home CTK 7200 as my rigging CTK 7200 (same question with my home/gigging PX350).

Jeff

Who else to better answer this question but you? Only you know if things will work for you the way you want.

Is something preventing you from trying?

I will. Haven’t had a chance yet.

Having seen David’s rig in pictures I know that he uses 3 duplicate Roland A800 keyboards.

I am not sure how MAC and Windows are different but usually when multiple devices are attached concurrently then they will be named something like this using the example of the 3 Roland A800:

Roland A800
Roland A800(1)
Roland A800(2)

With Gig Performer you can use the Rig Manager to define 3 different keyboards

KBD-TOP
KBD-MIDDLE
KBD-BOTTOM

And then once the 3 keyboards have been setup on stands and attached to the USB network you can hen use the Rig Manager to “learn” which keyboard (Roland A800, Roland A800(1), Roland A800(2)) would be mapped to each of the aliased: KBD-TOP, KBD-MIDDLE, KBD-BOTTOM. And then all Rackspaces for your songs would be setup to use the keyboard aliases (KBD-TOP, KBD-MIDDLE, KBD-BOTTOM). So once the keyboards are mapped in the Rig Manger, then you don’t have to worry which USB keyboard for that performance is installed in top, middle or bottom spot.

In fact this allows you to use any keyboard in the event that you dont have the exact keyboards for a performance to be used for the TOP, MIDDLE and BOTTOM spots in your rigs and rackspaces.

This is very convenient.

Last two gigs the keyboard button I use for going to the “next song part” stopped working. The “next song” and “previous song” functioned fine.

Luckily I was able to use the computer button to quickly change the song part. And between songs I was able to re-“learn” the button for changing song parts and it worked for the rest of the gig.

I don’t know why this happened (it happened once before). I am guessing it may have something to do with swapping out my home controller keyboard with my gigging keyboard. (Could it have something to do with not setting the button as “momentary”?).

Maybe using the Rig Manager would fix this? I admit I have to get a better understanding of how this works.

Absolutely!

Thank you, okay, I will work on this.

I was planning to set this up today. I watched the Youtube video “How to Switch Between Different Controllers Using the Rig Manager”.

I am not using version 4.5 because I purchased my GP through Plugin Alliance. I have the prior version.

So, apparently 4.5 fixed an issue with setting up the Rig Manager globally that existed in the pre 4.5 version?

So the set up would have to be done separately for each rackspace in the pre 4.5 version of GP?

Maybe I should just wait for Plugin Alliance to release 4.5 (taking a while!) and, for now, at the beginning of each gig, just double check song part changes are working right.

I am most just using the midi controller to change songs and song parts in Setlist Mode (I think under Setlist Options).

So, maybe I can still map the Rig Manager “across the board” (not on a rackspace-by-rackspace basis) (notwithstanding the glitch in pre 4.5 that affects the Global Rackspace) the way Brett originally tried to do in the video.(?)

No, you don’t need to wait to start to use Rig Manager. Do it now
