Routing Kontakt

Hi, Rubén with Weird Al here…Big time GP devotee…I wish to use 2 Instruments in Kontakt but have separate vol control over both…Do not wish to use 2 instatiations of kontakt plugin, only 1…Wish to adjust vols with fader in audio mixer plugin…Can this be done?

adjust vols with “Faders”

Ruben, just read the new blog article I wrote a few weeks ago. In particular, look at Step 5 which will explain exactly how to route different instruments in Kontakt to separate sets of audio channels.

Also would this help?

I run multiple Kontakt instruments to separate Gain blocks and control the volume from there before it hits the Audio Out.

I’ve done this exactly but my outputs stay 1/2 , i don’t get 3/4, 5/6 etc. So my plugin in the wiring diagram area stays at the stereo pair vs giving me the six pairs I am trying to attain. Any suggestions? thanks.

I bet you’re using the AU version of Kontakt rather than the VST3 version

That worked, I don’t know why. As I have a Macbook, I use AU version for all my plug-ins. According to NI, The AU version of Kontakt 7 is supposed to still give you 8 pair of stereo outputs, but clearly does not. Thank-you very much.

Why? I’m on Mac but I never use AU versions. I’ve generally found then to be less reliable. The VST versions get tested on many more platforms.

Never had any problems with AU plugins, and wouldn’t call this an issue, this AU version just doesn’t give me the option I want. I am of the belief that since AU plug-ins are made for Macs, then they must be somewhat more efficient. I haven’t seen anything that provides objective reasons otherwise ( for using VST over AU). I may research that more though.

Most plugins are developed using cross platform libraries, JUCE being one of the better known ones. The libraries present a unified SDK to developers and hide the actual differences of the formats at the backend. Consequently, when you write the actual code to handle incoming audio, or to respond to incoming MIDI messages, the code you write is both format and platform independent and it is that code which is executed regardless of the actual plugin format or the operating system (Mac or Windows). Consequently, the efficiency will be pretty much the same.
