Routing hardware patches

I’m relatively new to MIDI controllers / VSTs and having a hard time wrapping my head around this scenario…

Is it possible somehow to set up gig performer to route sound from a hardware internal patch on my synth (that is exclusively set up as a midi controller) via midi to my GP rack space and then out through my audio interface?

I have a few hardware patches that I don’t want to give up on, yet I don’t want a separate sound source on my rig. Would like all actual audio coming from the audio interface connected to my macbook.

Yes, if you have an audio interface with inputs (which most have).

You can run your hardware synth audio outputs into your audio interface in ports, then you can bring them into Gig Performer and manipulate them further with VSTs if you like, or just run the hardware synth audio straight to the output and merge it with whatever VSTi’s you want in Gig Performer.

MIDI only carries information about which keys you press and expression controls you move. It’s completely separate from the audio, so you would route both the MIDI and the audio from your hardware synth into GigPerformer. Then manipulate them both as you see fit, and route the audio back out.
