Roland XV-5080 - no sounds?

Cross post from Roland Cloud Users Facebook Group in case there are folks here using Roland XV-5080 VST. I’m a bit stuck at the moment.

I’m missing something painfully obvious.
I bought the XV-5080 VST plugin for PC. I’ve installed it to my PC from Roland Cloud and when I open the plugin in Gig Performer, everything is initialized and there are no sounds. What have I missed please and how do I fix it?

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled it a couple of times, but to no avail - everything is just “Initialized”. Grrrr. From some limited web searching, this is not unique to me, but c’mon, Roland! I’ve paid for like 900 sounds and at the moment have none of them.

Welcome any tips or suggestions from folks smarter than me (all y’all).

Thanks!

FWIW, in Kontakt I still sometimes forget to set the channel (unusually to Omni).

Could it be a mismatch in channels.

Oh, when this type of thing happens I look to see if the midi monitor on the top right shows midi data, I try triggering the plugin via the virtual keyboard in the midi in block, I try using the virtual keyboard in the plugin itself, I open up the Global Midi Monitor, etc.

Those help give clues what might be going on

Thank you!
I’m definitely getting MIDI through because there’s a bad default EP sound that I can play in the initialized slots

Well that just tells you that the plugin itself is working and that Gig Performer is working (surprise!). But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a MIDI channel mismatch/configuration issue - maybe other patches use different channels, particularly if it’s a multi-timbral plugin.

Open the global MIDI Monitor and see what MIDI channel your controller is sending

MIDI Is moving on CH1. The issue is there are no sounds in the preset slots. They’re all “Init”.

Then you need to reach out to Roland – that’s not something that GP would know anything about.

Yes I’m already working the problem with Roland. I’ve never suspected this was a GP issue. Just posted here because I’m seeking the experience of others with this plugin because I can’t be alone in this experience with Roland software specifically. Or maybe I am…

I would look into file pathways. You could try other forums (Roland forum) too.

Good luck!

I got this resolved. Had to do with finding the sound files on my PC and pulling them into the instrument manually. My challenge never had anything to do with GP and the Roland plugin now works brilliantly. Thanks all for the help and suggestions!

Did the Roland installer not set that up by default?

If I’m honest, it may have.

I was reacting to the first 3 banks of Init presets. Scrolling down further into the banks, one finds the factory sounds (not intuitive, but that’s how it goes).
It’s possible they were there all along. I’m not too proud to admit that my whole kerfuffle may have been user error, IDK. The sounds are all there now and I’m quite pleased with them.

Did you not get the category list hone you go to select patches? Must admit thisVST feels a bit clunky but ive not had that issue.

The category list is there - all good now! I agree clunky. Simple stuff like you have to double click a sound to select it and can’t scroll through them. I do like the sounds for the most part, though. Lots of usable stuff.

Yeah, it’s a pain to just browse the tones compared to most other VST’s, but it does sound so good.
