Rig Manager alias Confusion

I’m in GP5 on osx. I’m going to be switching keys as I travel, and at Home between studio and gig keyboard. (RD 2000 and Yamaha p105)

when I make an alias in the right hand side, my expectation is to see that alias in the Midi In block. Thereafter, i would learn the alias in the rig manager and wouldn’t need to go to the wiring screen.

but nothing is appearing. unsure what’ I’m missing.

Wrong side  The MIDI Device Aliases are on the left side - these will appear as MIDI In Blocks

The MIDI control aliases on the right side are used in the mapping section for widgets

so in the example above, on the left side, I’d:

  • rename missing digital keys alias to Lower Keys0 (or whatever)
  • then rename RD-2000 alias to Lower Keys?
  • in wiring, midi in block, Lower Keys would remain in place?

You wouldn’t be renaming the alias. Instead, you associate the alias you already have set up with the new controller. That way, the MIDI In blocks that you’ve already inserted into your wiring that use the MIDI alias won’t have to change at all—you’ve simply changed thet device using that alias name.

In this example, I had the alias ‘TopKeys’ associated with BMT 2 and I am switching that association to the Keystation 88.
