For gigs Rich recently swapped his Nord Stage 3 HP76 for a M-Audio Oxygen 61 Pro with Gig Performer.
The Nord is a great keyboard but his “back needs as lightweight as possible”.
He’s got 2 small touch screens: 1 for Gig Performer, the other for Mobile Sheets.
Here is a Focusrite 2i2 audio interface, a Dore MIDI to DMX converter, plus a PC, all built into a bespoke box made from 9mm ply.
This sits on his X stand.
There is also an external USB fan to prevent possible overheating.
There’s also a powered USB hub in there as the PC only has 4 USB ports. He has wired in a mains kettle lead socket to the outside of the box, plus 2 x 1/4" Jack sockets. One goes to his headrush stage amp, the other to the FoH mixer.
The Oxygen Pro has plenty of MIDI programmable buttons and pads: he has 8 of the pads set up to control his stage lights via the Dore MIDI box. (He was using the “mydmx go” lighting controller).
The others he has set to give him various Gig Performer channel faders.
Rich uses Mobile Sheets for his charts.
Each time he hits a “next page” pad on the Oxygen Pro, Mobile Sheets turns the page on his charts. It also changes the patch within Gig Performer when needed.
So far this new rig is working well, especially the easy control of the lights.
The monitors are cheapy ones from Amazon: ELECROW 10.1 Inch Touch Screen Monitor with IPS Panel.
The great thing about using Gig Performer is you can create splits anywhere and any how you want. You can move octaves up or down etc etc.
So having only 61 keys is just a case of careful thought and planning how to utilise less keys for each song part created.
