trying to make Acoustic Guitar sound full yet not washed out. (Ducking ?) or Gated Reverb sounds like the thing to do.
Any guitar players familiar with this please post a wiring view of this kind of setup.
Try iZotope Cascadia or Zynaptiq Adaptiverb
Whether you run things in series or parallel is up to you. Each method has its merit, its just about what sounds right to you.
I agree. It would like to see the connections. In the form of an image. perhaps a jpg.
exactly what i was looking for ~ Thanks
It’s only a stereo output on the compressor, so the delay and direct are getting the same signal.
I actually use a very old free plugin that was designed for shaping bass guitar but is a true secret weapon for acoustic/piezo guitar. I only need to use the EQ controls, it provides such an amazing boost.
Not a guitar player, but in my saxophone setup I use sidechain compression to duck the reverb while I’m playing and have it come up at the end of phrases. It adds clarity without losing the big reverb tails.
You need a compressor with sidechain input and you have to put your reverb in parallel (Set to 100% wet)
the wiring looks looks like this.
I go for a 4:1 ratio, fast attack, medium to slow release time and about 4db gain reduction. If you overdo it, it sounds unnatural.
I wanted to change the title of this post to include" Estas Tonne" That is the type of live reverb / compression I was trying to describe.
Start with the fastest attack setting of your compressor, so your reverb is immediately compressed once you start playing. Set your release time to something like 200-500ms to allow the reverb volume to come up gradually. You don’t want the reverb to pop in and out (like a gated reverb would)
If the effect is to noticeable, lower the threshold and/or the ratio and vice versa.
