As my Gigfile grows (many rackspaces and a lot of plugins and samples) so does my RAM occupation. So I am now in a very delicate situation because my Mac has 32GB RAM and my GIG file now needs more than 33 GB (so says my system monitor) leading to some noises and crackles when playing some sample based plugins.
In a recent past, I dealt with this problem by reducing the sample size of most of my KONTAKT libraries. I mean, if I only use a few notes of a library, why load all samples? So, I found a video about how to handle with this. Mainly, I just enter the library, purge all samples and then play only the notes I need. Next time I start that rackspace/plugin, only the samples I need are loaded.
That worked like a charm (and still does) for “Session Horns Pro”, for example. For a library that required 0,79 GB if fully loaded, I now only load 8 MB!!!
However, as my GigFile size still increases, I tried to apply this method on another KONTAKT library: “SHREDDAG 3 JUPITER”, a guitar library. Sadly, I found that the above method didn’t work and I cant find why.
I followed all the steps, purged the samples, played the notes I needed. I found that the samples size reduced dramatically (from 0,59 GB to 9 MB) as expected. If I change rackspace and then come to this rackspace again and open the KONTAKT plugin, the sample size remains at 9 MB, as expected. BUT, if I save and close my GigFile and then open it again, I find that all 0,59 GB samples are loaded again. It seems GP does not remember that I just need those few notes and load all the samples again.
As I use this same library, at least, in 6 different rackspaces, I am loading 6 x 0,59 GB every time I load my Gigfile…
I tried different solutions, saving the “purged” library with a different name, but the problem remains.
I also tried to resample the notes I need (with auto sample generator) to use with decent sample but that is not a way to go because the final result is crap (the recorded samples are way far from the original sound, because all the effects are gone). It seems auto sampler doesn’t record the built in effects of the sound source
.
Can anyone give a hint/solution for this?
