Recording with GP Streaming Audio File Player

Hi guys, I need some guidance sorting something out. I figured out how to use the Streaming Audio File Player to load and play an audio of a backing track of a guitar instrumental. I also figured out how to place markers throughout the song to trigger different rackspaces for my guitar parts throughout the song. For example, the Intro Marker uses a rackspace for a clean guitar. the Verse Marker triggers a rackspace for a sound with more gain, the Solo Marker uses a distorted rackspace with delay etc… Here’s the part where I need some help understanding something. I know that Gig Performer can record and I have used the recorder. However, the recording files are; A) the raw guitar DI, and B) the audio player song + the processed guitar signal. Is there a way to get a file of just the processed guitar signal isolated all by itself? I want to be able to record my processed guitar in Gig Performer and use that processed guitar file in my DAW to mix a polished version of my song. The reason I want to do this is because Gig Performer perfectly does all the rackspace switching and the guitar part sounds perfect but I don’t know how to get that into my DAW. I have tried the GP Relayer and it seems to just send the unprocessed DI to the DAW. I hope this made sense and thank you for any advice.

The main GP record feature will record either input or output ports for your interface. If you have additional unused output ports, you can route the processed guitar in Wiring view to these outputs, and then you can have an isolated recording.

As you are on Mac, you can use the BlackHole virtual audio driver to add more input/output ports for this purpose. You would also need to create an ‘Aggregate Device’ in the Mac Audio MIDI Setup app to combine your interface with BlackHole.

Alternatively, one of the main purposes of GP Relayer is to route audio to your DAW for recording. However the setup depends on what DAW you use. There are guides on this forum if you search for them.

Thanks for your reply. GP Relayer does record to the DAW but it always record the raw unprocessed guitar signal. The record function of the streaming audio file player records one file of the unprocessed guitar signal and the other file contains both the processed guitar plus the audio file being played by the streaming audio file player. My question is how to get just the processed guitar all by itself?

GP Relayer relays what you have wired to it.

There is no record function of the SAFP. Its a player only.

Let’s see a screenshot of how you have things wired.

I finally figured out what I needed to do but I had to abandon using GP Relayer. I’m not sure if it’s because there is some sort of conflict on my system or what exactly but the GP Relayer just absolutely will not do what it’s supposed to do on my system.

Here’s all I am trying to do:

I have a backing track loaded in Gig Performer’s Streaming Audio File Player where I have all my rackspace and markers set up to change backspaces and effects at various points in the song. I simply was trying to get GP Relayer to record into the DAW and I tried every possible combination of routing that I could think of and it just won’t work. I tested in 3 different DAWs (Logic Pro 11, Waveform Pro 13, and LUNA Pro) and GP Relayer sends raw unprocessed guitar signal through to each DAW. I tried using blackhole routing and all just all kinds of stuff.

I read in another thread that a guy was saying that he couldn’t get the GP Relayer to work and used an Apollo instead. So, I unplugged my AXE I/O interface and ended up hooking up my Apollo interface and abandoning GP Relayer altogether just like the other guy said and am using Apollo’s virtual channels to route everything from GIG Performer. The Apollo is doing this perfectly. It’s a shame I couldn’t get GP Relayer to work but at least I figured out a workaround using the virtual channels on the Apollo.

Some might ask why I was doing this in the first place. It’s because I have a basic sounding instrumental backing track. I am using this track in Gig Performer to practice the song until I can perform the instrumental as good as I possibly can. I love how Gig Performer can do all the effects changes on the fly using the markers and actions settings in the Streaming Audio File Player and I wanted GP Relayer to be able to pass all of this through to my DAW so that I can capture the guitar performance and then mix a proper version of the song. I hope I explained all of that correctly. Anyhow, I accomplished what I wanted but GP Relayer just doesn’t work for me and I’m glad I figured out another way.

The GP Relayer sends whatever audio is fed into it. So if you send audio after it is processed, then that is what will be sent. If that’s not happening then something is wrong with your configuration and I would bet that despite GP Relayer being on your DAW, you are probably just capturing the raw incoming audio from the interface directly on your DAW and NOT what’s coming in via GP Relayer.

I’ve spend hours and hours with GP Relayer, watched all the videos, read the manual, and it does not work no matter what I do. I’ll have to make a video to show you guys next time I get a chance to sit down with it. I mean, it is entirely possible I’m doing something wrong but it sends raw unprocessed signal to the DAW no matter what I do. I mean, I put the plugins before the Relayer and confirm send and receive signals and the pass through to the DAW is raw and unprocessed guitar signal every single time no matter what.

How do you know you are getting pass thru rather than your DAW receiving audio directly from the audio interface?
