I feel like Windows 11 is actively trying to sabotage itself at every turn
. A few weeks ago, a Windows update locked me out of my system and messed up the boot entries with no chance of recovery (I had a restore point). A few days later, a friend of mine updated his Windows 11 and it bricked his Samsung 980 Pro SSD.
If money were no object and I didn’t need the extra graphics capabilities of a dedicated GPU, I would definitely return to a macOS environment, especially for audio. With this machine, I’m already dual-booting into CachyOS (Linux) and resorting to Windows mainly for Gig Performer.
On the pure audio side of things, MacOS also delivered lower latencies compared to Windows 11 with my Motu M2 interface. Here are some of my results using the latency measuring tool built into Gig Performer:
| Sampling
| Buffer Size | M2 48 / 16 | M2 48 / 32 | M2 48 / 64 |
|---|---|---|---|
| MacOS 15.4 | 2.6 ms | 3.3 ms | 4.6 ms |
| Windows 11 | Robot Land | 3.5 ms | 5.4 ms |
You don’t use the Global rackspace?
I do! My setup is filled with plugins like Enso Looper, Polychrome HyperTune, EzDrummer, which not everyone might have. That’s why I exported only the rackspace, so others can drop it into their setups and get everything up and running quickly.
