Rack Spaces

Hi, could I get some help and advice on rack spaces please as I am in a dilemma on which way to go. My Scenario is: I play in a cover band duo/ Trio/ Band and have many many programed songs consisting of Audio and Midi. I require about 40 + patches + variations which seems to be a lot of rack spaces. Very Messy. So I tried this Scenario and maybe I am pushing my luck.
My 1st rack Space has a Triton Extreme which i send Program Changes to via Midi Ch 1 to select patches. This takes care of the 40+ patches and variations within this rack space. When I create a new song which again is Audio + midi. I have Midi Ch 2 changing Rack Spaces so i can use other VST’s. Arturia , Roland Etc.
For Eg Midi Ch 2 PRG 1 Selects the 1st rack space which has the Triton vst This responds to Midi Ch 1 Program Changes sent by the song. Midi Ch 2 PRG 4 selects the 4th Rack Space etc etc.
What I am asking, is this a safe way to run for a Live Show? Or Do i run with 40+ Rack Spaces..
Thanks for listening
Alan

Unless you have a good reason to do otherwise, I would start with the idea of one rackspace for each combination of sounds you may want to access simultaneously. Like if you need a particular organ sound, string sound, and piano sound in different keyboard zones, or split between two keyboards, that’s a rackspace.

When you go to a different song that needs different sounds, you’d make a rackspace for that.

While the thing you’re talking about doing with program changes might work, it doesn’t really fit the model of what GP is designed to do.

I’m in a similar situation with you (multiple cover bands, some full bands, some trios, etc.).

I want a different song (in setlist mode) for each song.

Sometimes I’ll use one rackspace with different variations for a particular song.

Sometimes, I’ll use a rackspace variation from another song part (horn section, etc.).

Sometimes I’ll modify an existing rackspace so I can re-use it without creating a duplicate (memory intensive) “sound”. (Vindes created an extension for me to help me check I did not mess up any other songs using that rackspace. Thx, Vindes!).

Heavy ram based sounds that are used often go in the Global Rackspace.

Most of these methods are intended to optimize ram.

Thanks for your message much appreciated.

Hi, thanks for sharing. I suppose we try some options and see what works best.
I have run with having all the racks spaces and also with my version and both seem stable.
