Hopefully this is in the right area in the Community, or hasn’t been answered somewhere else - Does anyone know if it’s possible to assign keys on the QWERTY keyboard on a MacBook Air to increment and decrement Global Transpose in GP4? If so - how?
What version are you using?
Which keys would you like on your keyboard for up and down?
Hi @JohnnyFoster, welcome to the GP community forum. What you want to achieve should be possible depending on the answer to the questions from @pianopaul. The idea @pianopaul has is probably to use a small Gig script. Once done, it should work seamlessly for you.
Hi There - thanks for the kind reply - it’s be great to assign the up / down arrow keys on the bottom right of the QWERTY keyboard to make Global Transpose adjustments in real-time when using GP4 (version 4.1.5).
Thanks for the help!

But when this arrow keys transpose how to navigate up/down to the next rackspace/variation etc?
With BOME MIDI Translator you can get the keystrokes up/down and map it to for example CC messages.
This CC Messages you can you to transpose, but BOM Translator has to be active to work this way.
Better use normal keys on your keyboard and with a simple GP Script you can transpose.
But tell me: Why do you need that transpose via keyboard?
It’d be great to have the ability to have assignable Global Transpose from the computer keyboard so I wouldn’t have to carry an additional MIDI controller like the Korg NanoKontrol 2 to assign buttons for Transpose.
I understand, but why do you need to transpose?
I would like to have the ability to Globally Transpose on the fly depending upon what vocalist or group I’m playing with at whatever moment; I’m a “hired gun” for various situations, and it would be convenient to have this Global Transpose at my disposal should the need arise.
OK, understand.
The cursor keys cannot be directly used for this kind of script needed.
What other keys coud you use?
Or why not use the lowest keys on your MIDI keyboard/controller?
Thanks for the reply ; yes - I could use the lowest keys on the MIDI keyboard - that would work great!
Procedure?
Many thanks again!

What version of GP are you using?
Here are step by step instructions:
- Gig Performer | How to implement incremental transpose
- Gig Performer | Controlling the global transpose from your keyboard
Just MIDI learn the lowest keys on your MIDI keyboard.
I’m using GP4
Terrific! Thank you!!
So it works for you?
Yes it does - perfectly!
Thank you for your help!
Best,
John
