After reading a bunch of feedback on the RME interfaces, I purchased a Babyface Pro FS. I want my keyboards to sound the best they can possiby sound. I won’t do anything on the recording side at all. I bought this strictly for the converters. From my M1 to the Babyface to my soundcraft UI24R. That’s it. Do I need to download the driver(s)? Thanks

Need, no. It’s class compliant if you put it in class compliant mode.
Should you. Yes.
TotalMix is part of their “driver.” You will not get the full usefulness of an RME without it. I thought the same when I bought my BabyFace, but using things like LoopBack, and sending different inputs to different destinations, balancing levels internally instead of on the boards… worth it.
Plus, they are constantly updating the firmware and drivers - important since Apple often Nerfs things on accident.
